A city wide festival of contemporary arts, it&#8217;s showcasing a program of exhibitions over four weeks.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">While this festival aims to establish Cardiff as a progressive city for contemporary art and innovation, there is yet no permanent venue to house a collection of contemporary art in Wales. W<\/span>hen compared with other platforms, and the level of representation in England, it looks like there is still work to be done.<\/span><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_31082\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\" style=\"width: 416px\"><a href=\"https:\/\/cardiffjournalism.co.uk\/altcardiff\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/13\/2016\/10\/IMG_9418.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-31082 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/cardiffjournalism.co.uk\/altcardiff\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/13\/2016\/10\/IMG_9418-416x312.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_9418\" width=\"416\" height=\"312\" \/><p class=\"wp-caption-text\"><noscript><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-31082 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/cardiffjournalism.co.uk\/altcardiff\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/13\/2016\/10\/IMG_9418-416x312.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_9418\" width=\"416\" height=\"312\" \/><\/noscript><\/a> The National Museum of Wales hosts a number of temporary exhibitions throughout the year, including Artes Mundi, which brings major international artists and their work to the city.<\/p><\/div>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Because of this, contemporary artists tend to rely on creating their own opportunities and are looking further afield to profile their work. This could pose yet another challenge to an already competitive market, especially for artists at the start of their careers, according to Chris Brown, co-director from\u00a0<\/span><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">g39, <\/span><\/em><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">a gallery which focuses on contemporary work<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Gallery Ten <\/span><\/em><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">director, Catrin Gardiner<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u00a0in Cardiff said: \u201cPeople expect a contemporary art gallery in Cardiff.\u201d She added, \u201cWe\u2019re a country with such a rich culture, it shows that there\u2019s a lack of funding in Wales\u2019s visual culture, confidence, and a need to make a decision.\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">With the re-opening of Swansea\u2019s iconic <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.glynnvivian.com\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Glynn Vivian Art Gallery<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, they have ensured it has a contemporary feel in its multi million pound renovation. Laura Sims, marketing officer of audience development said: <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cGiven this big, new space, we\u2019ve now got the opportunity to hold absolutely everything here. It\u2019s really important to us that we\u2019re not just a gallery that has just a collection.
