{"id":34382,"date":"2016-11-29T12:42:14","date_gmt":"2016-11-29T12:42:14","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.jomec.co.uk\/altcardiff\/?p=34382"},"modified":"2016-11-29T12:42:14","modified_gmt":"2016-11-29T12:42:14","slug":"exclusive-its-just-poetry-in-motion-for-rhys","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cardiffjournalism.co.uk\/altcardiff\/2016\/11\/29\/exclusive-its-just-poetry-in-motion-for-rhys\/","title":{"rendered":"Exclusive: It\u2019s just poetry in motion"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>There\u2019s a buzz in the air this winter and it\u2019s all to do with some home grown Cardiff talent, <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/rhys_milsom?ref_src=twsrc%5Egoogle%7Ctwcamp%5Eserp%7Ctwgr%5Eauthor\">Rhys Milsom<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s hard to think that he can find time to write between his day job and looking after his daughter, but Rhys has managed to do just that (again) with his second anthology.<\/p>\n<p>In just under two weeks\u2019 time, his new collection of poems,<em> Transition,<\/em> will hit Waterstones and indie shelves alike.<\/p>\n<p>Rhys\u2019 creative process is an individualistic one. In its rawest form his poetry is written as prose; Rhys then dissects this to form his free verse.<\/p>\n<p>This technique flourished during his masters where he met fellow poet and lecturer, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mennaelfyn.co.uk\/\">Menna Elfyn<\/a>, who encouraged Rhys to take up poetry. Mena was Rhys\u2019 mentor and helped transform his 70,000-word novel into the poetic language it has now become.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_34477\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\" style=\"width: 468px\"><a href=\"https:\/\/cardiffjournalism.co.uk\/altcardiff\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/13\/2016\/11\/rhyspoetry.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-34477 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/cardiffjournalism.co.uk\/altcardiff\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/13\/2016\/11\/rhyspoetry-468x312.jpg\" alt=\"rhyspoetry\" width=\"468\" height=\"312\" \/><p class=\"wp-caption-text\"><noscript><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-34477 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/cardiffjournalism.co.uk\/altcardiff\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/13\/2016\/11\/rhyspoetry-468x312.jpg\" alt=\"rhyspoetry\" width=\"468\" height=\"312\" \/><\/noscript><\/a> Rhys softens down his accent when giving a reading<\/p><\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>While on paper Rhys\u2019 journey may seem like plain sailing, it wasn\u2019t always all launch parties and publication dates. Shortly after graduating, Rhys sent poems out to magazines, newspapers and anthologies for consideration. Some were successful, others were not.<\/p>\n<p>This launch is made more poignant than most as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.accentpress.co.uk\/\">Accent Press<\/a> are not only publishing this new collection but also re-publishing his first collection, <em>Amnesia<\/em>, which went back into print yesterday.<\/p>\n<p>Rhys is Accent\u2019s bridge back into poetry, as they haven\u2019t published any poetical works in seven years. Anne Porter, Rhys\u2019 editor, is enthusiastic about the upcoming launch: \u201cwe\u2019re very proud to be publishing a local author and bringing his work to a wider audience.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A number of different venues are hosting Rhys across this festive period. On 1 December, Rhys will be reading from his first collection at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.littlemancoffee.co.uk\/\">The Little man coffee shop<\/a>. Transition will then launch on the 10 December at <a href=\"http:\/\/octavobooks.co.uk\/events\/transition-launch-rhys-milsoms-new-collection-of-poetry\/\">Octavo<\/a>.
