Old buildings have fallen, and new ones have risen in their place.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> To preserve those historic buildings that remain in the city centre, Cardiff Council has a number of conservation areas to preserve places of \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cardiff.gov.uk\/ENG\/resident\/Planning\/Documents\/Conservation%20Areas.pdf\">special architectural or historic interest<\/a>\u201d, with consultation underway for an additional one in\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.walesonline.co.uk\/news\/wales-news\/normal-corner-cardiff-could-declared-15282476\">Guildford Crescent<\/a>\u00a0near Churchill Way.\u00a0 \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Alt.Cardiff asked members of the public what their views were on Cardiff Council\u2019s attempts to preserve the area\u2019s architectural heritage.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-42365\" src=\"https:\/\/cardiffjournalism.co.uk\/altcardiff\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/13\/2018\/10\/IMG_0599-416x312.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"416\" height=\"312\" \/><noscript><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-42365\" src=\"https:\/\/cardiffjournalism.co.uk\/altcardiff\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/13\/2018\/10\/IMG_0599-416x312.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"416\" height=\"312\" \/><\/noscript><\/p>\n<p><b>Brian Hodges, 52, Roofer from Hay-on-Wye<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">&#8220;I\u2019ve got no faith in Cardiff Council whatsoever, having dealt with them and understanding what they do and what they say is two different things. But keeping them out of it, I think that traditional buildings in Cardiff should be maintained at all times.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-42366\" src=\"https:\/\/cardiffjournalism.co.uk\/altcardiff\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/13\/2018\/10\/IMG_0608-416x312.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"416\" height=\"312\" \/><noscript><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-42366\" src=\"https:\/\/cardiffjournalism.co.uk\/altcardiff\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/13\/2018\/10\/IMG_0608-416x312.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"416\" height=\"312\" \/><\/noscript><\/p>\n<p><b>Jonathan Jones, 29, magician from Llanelli<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">&#8220;I think if they want to restore a building, they could turn it into some sort of tourist attraction that might bring more people in. But if that\u2019s not going to happen to it then there\u2019s no real need, because at the end of the day it\u2019s just a building. There\u2019s still lots of significant buildings around Cardiff that have been saved, and it\u2019s just land that could be used for something, for example a homeless shelter.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-42367\" src=\"https:\/\/cardiffjournalism.co.uk\/altcardiff\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/13\/2018\/10\/IMG_0612-416x312.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"416\" height=\"312\" \/><noscript><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-42367\" src=\"https:\/\/cardiffjournalism.co.uk\/altcardiff\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/13\/2018\/10\/IMG_0612-416x312.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"416\" height=\"312\" \/><\/noscript><\/p>\n<p><b>Andrew Chandler, 34, Security Officer from Cardiff<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">&#8220;Cardiff has actually undergone a massive change over the last two decades especially. I actually watched the old Hayes get ripped down. And it was heartbreaking. Because that was where my mum used to take me when I was younger. It had the library, it had the Toys R Us, it had the ice rink. And when they moved the ice rink down to the Bay, it kind of wasn\u2019t the same. And a lot of the old buildings in town should be preserved. So since I\u2019ve not been exposed to how it was in the past, I don\u2019t know how it\u2019s changed. Because no-one wants to visit a huge metropolitan city where everything\u2019s new, unless it\u2019s Dubai and the like I guess.
