{"id":48335,"date":"2019-10-28T16:50:53","date_gmt":"2019-10-28T16:50:53","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.jomec.co.uk\/altcardiff\/?p=48335"},"modified":"2019-10-28T16:50:53","modified_gmt":"2019-10-28T16:50:53","slug":"voxpop-how-do-people-feel-about-public-transport-in-the-city","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cardiffjournalism.co.uk\/altcardiff\/2019\/10\/28\/voxpop-how-do-people-feel-about-public-transport-in-the-city\/","title":{"rendered":"Voxpop: How do people feel about public transport in the city?"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>How do the residents of Cardiff feel about public transport?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/cardiffjournalism.co.uk\/altcardiff\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/13\/2019\/10\/IMG_2371-2-980x635.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-48355\" \/><noscript><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cardiffjournalism.co.uk\/altcardiff\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/13\/2019\/10\/IMG_2371-2-980x635.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-48355\" \/><\/noscript><figcaption>Cardiff Central Station is the main train station in the city centre<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Trains and buses are the main form of public transport in Cardiff and as the city keeps growing and developing, the accessibility and ease of use come into question. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With over <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Transport_in_Cardiff#Rail\">10 million people<\/a> using the Cardiff Central and Queen Street stations each year, public transport is used to commute around the city each day. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With the fight for climate change also being at its strongest, you has to ask the question whether using public <a href=\"https:\/\/cardiffjournalism.co.uk\/altcardiff\/uncategorized\/is-active-transport-the-answer\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"transport (opens in a new tab)\">transport<\/a> is another way of supporting the issue.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cardiff.gov.uk\/eng\/resident\/parking-roads-and-travel\/transport-policies-plans\/local-transport-plan\/Pages\/default.aspx\">new local transport plan<\/a> that the council has put in place and was approved by the Welsh Government for 2015-20 identifies the transport issues relevant to the area, the improvements that are needed to address these issues and a five-year programme of schemes which outlines the infrastructure schemes to be delivered within each financial year.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The plan includes walking and cycling, infrastructure, bus network and junction improvements, 20mph limits and road safety schemes.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As the transport system has worsened over the years whilst waiting for new developments to be made, we asked the residents of Cardiff how they feel about public transport in the city more generally&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>What do you think about trains and buses as a form of public transport in Cardiff?&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>David Evans, 54, consultant, Hayes Apartments<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2018I think it\u2019s a mess with the bus depot. We\u2019ve been promised a new bus station for quite a long time now, but none seems to be materialising.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/cardiffjournalism.co.uk\/altcardiff\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/13\/2019\/10\/IMG_2400.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-48337\" width=\"623\" height=\"467\" \/><noscript><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cardiffjournalism.co.uk\/altcardiff\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/13\/2019\/10\/IMG_2400.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-48337\" width=\"623\" height=\"467\" \/><\/noscript><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Alice Crabtree, 29, doctor, Whitchurch<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t really like it. The bus station confuses me.
