However, a dangerous risk of more homeless people is coming, as&nbsp;UK employment has <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.southwalesargus.co.uk\/news\/national\/18030316.uk-employment-sees-biggest-decline-four-years-job-vacancies-slump\/\" target=\"_blank\">seen<\/a> its sharpest decline in four years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So, should we be supporting homeless people by getting them into work? Providing them with a platform into careers that further allow them to sustainably support themselves.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Discussing the harrowing fall into homelessness, Cymorth Cymru\u2019s Nazia Azad-Warren noted, \u201cThere are lots of reasons why some people become homeless. It&#8217;s a mix between structural issues, personal circumstances and everyone&#8217;s relative privilege that determines people&#8217;s outcomes.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Amongst relationship breakdowns, alcohol or drug abuse and housing shortages; than between December and February (2018-2019)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Thrive and conquer as communities <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Support providers such as <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"Cymorth Cymru (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cymorthcymru.org.uk\/en\/\" target=\"_blank\">Cymorth Cymru<\/a> (the representative body for homelessness, housing and support services in Wales) and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.llamau.org.uk\/learning-4-life\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"Llamau (opens in a new tab)\">Llamau<\/a> (Wales&#8217; leading homelessness charity) are tackling homelessness through skills, education and opportunities alongside community support.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe want to be part of a movement that ends homelessness and creates a Wales where everyone can live safely and independently in their own homes and thrive in their communities,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pressreader.com\/uk\/western-mail\/20190724\/282059098594151\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\">explained<\/a> Katie Dalton, director of Cymorth Cymru.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Cardiff opened its arms to over 500 players from across the world to partake in the <a href=\"https:\/\/homelessworldcup.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"Homeless World Cup (opens in a new tab)\">Homeless World Cup<\/a> (2019) with the support of Cymorth Cymru.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On 22 July, just days before the official &#8216;kick-off&#8217; of the tournament, Cymorth Cymru launched their <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"Play Your Part (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cymorthcymru.org.uk\/en\/policy\/campaigns\/homeless-world-cup\/play-your-part\" target=\"_blank\">Play Your Part<\/a> campaign, encouraging people and organisations across Wales to play their part in ending homelessness.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The campaign is still available online today, allowing you to contact your local councils, MPs and assembly members through a series of \u2018calls to action\u2019 that you feel fit to support homelessness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Disrupting Stigma Surrounding Homelessness <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Job coach and Women&#8217;s Business Club Businesswoman of the year <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"nominee (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/wales247.co.uk\/swansea-job-coach-in-the-running-for-a-major-uk-business-award\/\" target=\"_blank\">nominee<\/a>, Saskia Volders, has worked with homeless people, refugees and charities, providing guidance to those in need of support.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Saskia said: \u201cWe\u2019re all human and judge appearances and hygiene. Employers look for someone to fit into a team and who are able to help the business from day one. Our (unconscious) bias works against people who are struggling through the stress of homelessness.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Securing work for those in unemployment can halt the process of people becoming homeless, and help those currently on the street into employment. Disrupting the stigmas that surround them.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In April 2019, The Welsh Government released \u2018Work in Wales\u2019 <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"data (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/gov.wales\/sites\/default\/files\/statistics-and-research\/2019-04\/work-in-wales-2006-2017.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">data<\/a>. The recordings were calculated from surveys by the&nbsp;School of Social Sciences at Cardiff University and showed that jobs in Wales are now less skills-oriented and demanding in considering the level of qualifications needed.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This is not to say that those living in poverty are not skilled. A vital crowdfunding organisation, Beam, highlights the aims and dreams that homeless people possess, showing that it is not lack of skills but lack of support.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Proper pathways alongside the right training and opportunities, work and education is the new frontier of tackling our homeless crisis in Wales. While providing some support and training opportunities, schemes rarely lead to jobs for homeless people far from the labour market. Homeless claimants can instead often feel unheard and unsupported\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"Llamau (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.llamau.org.uk\/learning-4-life\" target=\"_blank\">Llamau<\/a> is an organisation that supports those at risk of homelessness to live independent, happy and successful lives, working to ensure that vulnerable people are provided with support including help into a job or back into education.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The organisation is split into a number of specific services in order to target the right support for each individual service user. Between these various services, Llamau is able to offer life-changing support to around 4,000 of the most vulnerable people in Wales each year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Nurture programme: Learning 4 Life<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Learning 4 Life is a grant-funded <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.llamau.org.uk\/learning-4-life\" target=\"_blank\">programme<\/a> by Llamau, providing 1:1 support to those in need. \u201cWe see ourselves as a nurture provision and as such offer a very holistic delivery model.\u201d Says Mark Willmore, head of learning, training and employment at Llamau.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mark Willmore believes that the opportunity to gain an education is vital in tackling homelessness. In adding to the discussion, he said, \u201cWe provide essential accreditation and also help to support with life skills and employability. Our aim is to \u2018Open their eyes to what is available\u2019 and ensure they leave us with the skills to move on.\u201d Says Mark.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The programme currently sees 75% of those they support to progress into EET. \u201cWe help those furthest away from the labour market, with additional barriers to entering education, employment and training,\u201d Mark added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Currently, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.llamau.org.uk\/learning-4-life\">Learning 4 Life<\/a> team is seeking to deliver the programme in schools. \u201cThis is reflective of a preventative delivery model to end youth homelessness across Wales.\u201d Mark Willmore finally adds.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Will you play your part?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/news\/uk-wales-46622923\">As of <\/a> December 2017, 90 homeless people have died from life on the streets in Wales.
