menstrual phase, so you want to try to eat iron-rich foods such as lentils, beans and leafy greens. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAlso, eat foods high in vitamin C to help absorb that iron,\u201d says Davies, <span style=\"font-size: revert\">ahead of <\/span><a style=\"font-size: revert\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nhsemployers.org\/news\/self-care-week-2022#:~:text=Share,own%20mental%20health%20and%20wellbeing.\">Self Care Week<\/a><span style=\"font-size: revert\">, which is running from 14-20 November.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Her comments also follow a recent <a href=\"https:\/\/yougov.co.uk\/topics\/society\/articles-reports\/2022\/09\/30\/period-pain-and-work-many-women-have-never-taken-t\">YouGov<\/a> report which found that 80% of working women who menstruate have experienced period pain so severe that it affected their ability to work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe shouldn\u2019t be in so much pain that we can\u2019t live our lives,\u201d says Davies. \u201cIt\u2019s not right and it\u2019s not normal.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To help combat such severe menstrual cramps, the nutritionist suggests eating foods that are rich in omega 3, such as mackerel, walnuts, and flaxseeds.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While social media posts about cycle-syncing have become popular during the last couple of years, Davies is sceptical of the \u201cblanket approach\u201d these posts take. \u201cThese posts insinuate that certain foods are good for anyone,&#8221; says the practitioner. \u201cThey could recommend ingredients that some individuals may not be able to tolerate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;I take a more personalised approach and tweak diets based on the individual&#8217;s needs, problems, and deficiencies.&#8221; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Davies set up Bloom Nutritional Therapy in 2018 and says that it began to thrive during the first lockdown.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With a clientele that is 95% female, she now takes on a new client every week.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She credits the boom to increased media coverage of  women&#8217;s health issues and lockdown affording people more time to focus on nutrition and meal preparation.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s such an impactful thing to do because you can really benefit so many women,&#8221; says Davies. &#8220;It can be life-changing for
