While she admits some subjects are not appropriate for her to talk about, she also explains that no subject should be avoided.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The inspirational 22-year-old from Cardiff has established her own space within women\u2019s health activism, speaking on the issues she feels connected to and breaking down barriers that make women\u2019s health concerns seem taboo.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She began advocating for women\u2019s health at the age of 13, but it was the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/loveyourperiodcymru\/?locale=en_GB\">Love Your Period <\/a>campaign she created with her sister Tilly when she was 16 that gave her the reputation of a respectable activist.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI think I have a lot of respect and my name is seen quite highly across Wales and part of the UK,\u201d she says.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Love Your Period campaign she created nearly six years ago has achieved its goals of better educating people on periods and removing some of the stigma around menstruation. Yet, Fenton feels like much more can be done.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThis is bigger than just a period,\u201d she says. \u201cHaving that education and mutual understanding for all genders is really important so we\u2019re looking at this on a deeper level now.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"577\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Where is she setting her sights?<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p>While Fenton has passionately advocated for women\u2019s health for nine years, she has found that she has had to redirect her focus a number of times.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cRight at the beginning, when I started my period campaign, I decided that the goal was going to be <a href=\"https:\/\/cardiffjournalism.co.uk\/altcardiff\/2022\/12\/12\/period-poverty-the-struggle-for-welsh-government-to-commit-to-free-period-products-for-all\/\">education around periods for everyone in schools <\/a>as well as resources for those of us that left school and didn\u2019t get that education,\u201d she says.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThen I realised that actually we know this is a bigger issue when we saw that pupils were taking products home for their whole families and still struggling,\u201d she says.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She says that her goals have changed as she has found more underlying issues and \u201cgotten deeper,\u201d into the women\u2019s activism space.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For her, health issues surrounding hormones need extra attention and so this is an area she focuses on.\u00a0\u00a0This is especially important to her given the fact that she has an inoperable brain tumour that was diagnosed through hormonal changes.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cHormones don\u2019t equal sex and reproduction,\u201d she says. \u201cHormones are a whole body issue.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Listen to the following clip to hear what Fenton had to say about how we should rel=\"noopener\">Molly Fenton talks about hormones<\/a><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Respecting other spaces<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p>While Fenton has highlighted many health issues, she also wants to remind people that she cannot do everything and there are health issues she cannot comment on.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-pullquote\"><blockquote><p>Everyone\u2019s got a voice. For some, it\u2019s not safe for them to use it<\/p><\/blockquote><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe need to take away the idea, I think, of us having to go in and save everyone. If I don\u2019t have any experience, I can\u2019t be there on an empathetic level,\u201d she says.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Fenton says it would be inappropriate for her to speak on another person\u2019s behalf if she hasn\u2019t experienced their issues and that there are plenty of people who can speak, they just need safer spaces to speak in.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cEveryone\u2019s got a voice. For some, it\u2019s not safe for them to use it and we need to facilitate a safe space for them,\u201d she says.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She says it is important to start helping those who might face hostility and \u201csafeguarding issues,\u201d for trying to establish their own space within women\u2019s health activism.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She adds that she worries about hateful comments from prominent public figures and with many celebrating Human Rights Day on 10 December, it raises the question of who is recognised in policies and legislation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She says \u201cpeople that don\u2019t identify as women do have periods and that is a fact.
