Homeless people in Cardiff call for changes to homeless services

Cardiff Council released a report on 27th February showing that 9500 households are on the social housing waiting list and demand is still rising.

In this report, 77 percent of households were prevented from being homeless in 2023 and 2024. Almost 69 percent of respondents to a recent consultation said the help they recieved from the council to prevent homelessness was excellent or good.

However, although the government made a lot of progress in the past 2 years, there is a rise of 20 percent of households threatened with homelessness between 2020 and 2024.

Donna, a homeless woman in Cardiff, thinks the government isn’t doing enough for people like her.

Cardiff Council acknowledges the housing emergency and says it is working to move people out of temporary accommodation faster. Plans include new housing projects like Tŷ Ephraim, set to be completed by May 2025.
