Churchill Way Improvement Project in Cardiff has Divided Opinions

The works were originally scheduled to take a year but they have been delayed.

Churchill Road, one of Cardiff’s main thoroughfares, has been under redevelopment for more than a year.

The plan’s main objective is to open up the city’s canal and turn it into a green public space, with outdoor seating and an amphitheater-style performance area, and to improve the eastern part of the city center.

Some business staff who work here think it will be a good thing for the business and the city. The manager at Wales Air Ambulance Charity Shop, Lotte Fisher, thinks it’ll benefit their shop.

She says,” if this project finished, it will attract more customers and their business will recover before.”

But other people disagree.

Lazarou Bros is a barbershop which has been on Churchill Road for more than 35 years. Staff here say it’s been seriously affected.

The manager of the barbershop, Loyola Lazarou says they’ve seen a big fall in trade.

She says, ”The construction has led to a loss of customers and they have tolerated big noise outside of the shop.”

The redevelopment work has meant pedestrians only have a narrow space to walk on.

The Churchill Road renovation project is continuing. And it’s hoped it will be finished soon.
