Cardiff’s “Swifties” have lost hundreds of pounds by falling prey to ticket scams on social media platforms.
Taylor Swift is set to come to Cardiff for one night in June at the Principality Stadium as part of her Eras Tour,
Scammers are advertising the tickets at a cheaper price and state a reason they can no longer attend, rushing people into transferring the money.
Barry Miao is a recent victim. He and his friends first saw the post on X, formerly known as Twitter. After transferring £120 from his bank account, the scammer and the website vanished, and his account got blocked.
“It’s absolutely disgusting as I fully trusted her. I kept trying to contact her with other accounts, but she told us that the ticket was sold.”
Barry says fraudsters have used various tactics, such as using the Ticketmaster platform to increase their credibility.
According to a Guardian report, ticket scams for high-profile artists have become a worldwide issue. In the UK, concert ticket scams rose by 529% from March 2022 to February 2023, with victims losing an average of £110 on tickets to leading acts such as Harry Styles, Coldplay, and Lewis Capaldi.
