The Statue of Alliance is a 25-metre- high sculpture in Cardiff city centre, Wales. It is created by Parisian installation artist Jean-Bernard Metais.
The Statue of Alliance is conducted by an arrow and a hoop, and this kind of design seems to support a balance.
The hoop is filled with phosphorescent liquid which is submerged below the pavement which is translated to make it rise and fall with the tides of the Bristol Channel.
Quoting a sentence from a famous poet Matt Jones, “Alliance is impressive, and Cardiff has its portrait inched on her skin, literally.“
This sculpture was commissioned after a national competition aimed at finding suitable artworks that fit the city.
Chenxi Wang is a Cardiff University student who has visited a lot of statues in the city and says he understands why it was chosen. “The sculpture is received a total of 120 responses from artists worldwide,” he said. “It fits well with the city and is going to become a landmark.”
