{"id":21883,"date":"2018-12-11T18:08:12","date_gmt":"2018-12-11T18:08:12","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/jomec.co.uk\/cjsnews\/?p=21883"},"modified":"2018-12-11T18:08:12","modified_gmt":"2018-12-11T18:08:12","slug":"new-20mph-speed-limits-in-cardiff-no-good-whatsoever","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cardiffjournalism.co.uk\/cjsnews\/new-20mph-speed-limits-in-cardiff-no-good-whatsoever\/","title":{"rendered":"New 20mph speed limits in Cardiff &#039;no good whatsoever&#039;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>There has been a mixed response across\u00a0the city to Cardiff Council&#8217;s plans to introduce new 20mph speed limits in areas across the Welsh capital.<\/strong><br \/>\n<!--more--><br \/>\nThe new speed limits are\u00a0planned for areas\u00a0including\u00a0Riverside, Grangetown, Canton, Butetown, Gabalfa, Plasnewydd, Penylan and Splott. The scheme is due to be in place by 2021.<br \/>\nThe new speed restrictions have divided opinion across Cardiff, with residents\u00a0in the city\u00a0speaking out. Some people are questioning the effectiveness of them.<br \/>\nCardiff taxi driver Colin Davies says &#8216;I don&#8217;t think it&#8217;s doing any good whatsoever because nobody takes any notice of them&#8217;.<br \/>\nMr. Davies says &#8216;There are parts of Cardiff\u00a0&#8211; Roath Park Lake, Marlborough School &#8211; all of these are 30mph. Through town it&#8217;s 30mph but where there&#8217;s no people it&#8217;s 20mph&#8217;. In his words, these speed limits are &#8216;no good whatsoever&#8217;.<br \/>\nResidents in Radyr are also unhappy. They say there are &#8216;disgraceful double standards&#8217; regarding funding. Radyr\u00a0locals say &#8216;Cardiff Council finds money to make all these 20mph zones but require money from developers before they will do anything for Radyr and Morganstown&#8217;.<br \/>\nBlethyn James says\u00a0the speed limits\u00a0are effective as people\u00a0&#8216;will be forced to drive more calmly and with more consideration for pedestrians and the community&#8217;.<br \/>\nCardiff Council\u00a0says the limits\u00a0will reduce irresponsible driving and motoring accidents.<br \/>\nThe council says the speed restrictions will not only reduce the use of side streets as cut-throughs but will also encourage healthier lifestyles by making people more likely to cycle or walk.<br \/>\n&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>There has been a mixed response across\u00a0the city to Cardiff Council&#8217;s plans to introduce new 20mph speed limits in areas across the Welsh capital.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":216,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_exactmetrics_skip_tracking":false,"_exactmetrics_sitenote_active":false,"_exactmetrics_sitenote_note":"","_exactmetrics_sitenote_category":0,"footnotes":""},"categories":[6,96],"tags":[],"coauthors":[],"class_list":["post-21883","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-news","category-transport"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v25.2 - https:\/\/yoast.com\/wordpress\/plugins\/seo\/ -->\n<title>New 20mph speed limits in Cardiff &#039;no good whatsoever&#039;
