{"id":25067,"date":"2020-02-28T17:57:00","date_gmt":"2020-02-28T17:57:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/jomec.co.uk\/cjsnews\/?p=25067"},"modified":"2022-11-23T12:49:00","modified_gmt":"2022-11-23T12:49:00","slug":"the-last-music-shop-in-barry","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cardiffjournalism.co.uk\/cjsnews\/the-last-music-shop-in-barry\/","title":{"rendered":"The last music shop in Barry"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>Music shop blames social media sellers and online retailers for its financial troubles.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Barry Music Shop may be forced to close due to unregulated social media sellers and online retailers.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The shop has been open for twenty years and not only supplies guitars but helps with events across Wales.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Owner John Lewis says that there are several reasons the store is threatened with closure, the most recent being online social media market places. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He says that they are even more of a threat than regular online retailers due to a lack of listing costs and regulation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/cardiffjournalism.co.uk\/cjsnews\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/11\/2020\/02\/JPL--402x394.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-25075\" width=\"555\" height=\"544\" \/><noscript><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cardiffjournalism.co.uk\/cjsnews\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/11\/2020\/02\/JPL--402x394.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-25075\" width=\"555\" height=\"544\" \/><\/noscript><figcaption>John Peter Lewis &#8211; Owner of The Barry Music Shop<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>He says he often sees ads for guitars and  \u201cThen all of a sudden you start seeing the same name cropping up week after week\u201d on online marketplaces, \u201cthey\u2019ve got one\u201d, then \u201cthere\u2019s two, three, then there\u2019s six. You start counting the number of guitars they\u2019ve suddenly got for sale, oh, \u2018we\u2019ve got too many guitars in our collection\u2019, no, they\u2019re running an illegitimate business,\u201d on social media.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He also blamed some schools for taking their business elsewhere. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Peyton, a local charity shop worker, says her friends have used the music shop for years and would be very sad to see it go.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/cardiffjournalism.co.uk\/cjsnews\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/11\/2020\/02\/20200228_121039-474x394.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-25082\" width=\"575\" height=\"478\" \/><noscript><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cardiffjournalism.co.uk\/cjsnews\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/11\/2020\/02\/20200228_121039-474x394.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-25082\" width=\"575\" height=\"478\" \/><\/noscript><figcaption>Peyton &#8211; A Local Charity Shop Worker<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Mr Lewis says his events business JPL Sound &amp; Communications isn&#8217;t under threat. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But he&#8217;s concerned unless there&#8217;s a change soon then the specialist knowledge and expertise  at the store could be lost for good. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>  <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Music shop blames social media sellers and online retailers for its financial troubles.
