{"id":25469,"date":"2020-03-11T17:06:00","date_gmt":"2020-03-11T17:06:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/jomec.co.uk\/cjsnews\/?p=25469"},"modified":"2022-11-23T12:59:37","modified_gmt":"2022-11-23T12:59:37","slug":"coronavirus-sky-call-centre-employee-theres-a-sense-of-panic","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cardiffjournalism.co.uk\/cjsnews\/coronavirus-sky-call-centre-employee-theres-a-sense-of-panic\/","title":{"rendered":"Coronavirus Sky call centre employee: &#039;There&#039;s a sense of panic.&#039;"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/cardiffjournalism.co.uk\/cjsnews\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/11\/2020\/03\/sky-call-centre-1-700x323.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-25398\" \/><noscript><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cardiffjournalism.co.uk\/cjsnews\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/11\/2020\/03\/sky-call-centre-1-700x323.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-25398\" \/><\/noscript><figcaption>Sky&#8217;s Cardiff call centre <\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n<p style=\"text-align:left\"><strong>CJS News speaks exclusively to a Sky call centre employee about the reaction to the outbreak in their building. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n<p>One of Sky&#8217;s Cardiff&#8217;s call centre employees described a sense of panic as their office was shut down when a colleague tested positive for Coronavirus. <\/p>\n\n\n<p>When the case was confirmed yesterday afternoon, the building was shut down for deep cleaning, and is set to re-open tomorrow. <\/p>\n\n\n<p>The employee, who would like to remain anonymous, told CJS News, &#8220;The message came through as an email so no-one actually came up to us to tell us, and judging by the managers reaction they didn\u2019t know either. <\/p>\n\n\n<p>&#8220;We saw it and the call centre had to be closed down immediately, so we obviously just told the customer we\u2019re really sorry we have to go and ended the call. &#8220;<\/p>\n\n\n<p>The outbreak was declared as a pandemic this afternoon by the World Health Organisation. <\/p>\n\n\n<p>It has resulted in 19 Coronavirus cases in Wales, but the Sky employee says that &#8220;some people have been advised to self isolate and some are being told to self isolate for two weeks so there\u2019s different information going around. <\/p>\n\n\n<p>&#8220;It\u2019s causing a bit of fear and hysteria in the call centre because people don\u2019t know if they could have &nbsp;possibly been infected, or if they are worrying for no reason.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n<p>Our source said that a lot of staff were feeling anxious about whether they had contracted the virus assaying &#8220;we don\u2019t know who the employee is, we don\u2019t know if they\u2019d been to an infected country. <\/p>\n\n\n<p>&#8220;We don\u2019t know anything because we don\u2019t know if we\u2019ve actually come into contact with that person.   There\u2019s definitely &nbsp;a sense of panic especially when you go past people and think, oh no what if I pass something on.<\/p>\n\n\n<p>&#8220;If you\u2019re living with someone with underlying health issues you think what\u2019s gonna happen here type thing, because you don\u2019t know what measures you\u2019re supposed to be taking. &#8220;<\/p>\n\n\n<p>Sky were scheduled to re-open tomorrow after the company ordered a deep clean in the call centre. <\/p>\n\n\n<p>Staff are still unsure whether they will return to work tomorrow.<\/p>\n\n\n<p>Yesterday Sky released this statement to CJS News: <em>\u201cWe can confirm that a Sky colleague in our Cardiff contact centre has been diagnosed with COVID-19 and they are self-isolating at home. <\/em><\/p>\n\n\n<p><em>\u201cProtecting our people is \u2013 and always will be \u2013 our top priority and so we are closing the contact centre today and sending everyone home&nbsp;as a precaution.<\/em><em> We\u2019re contacting anyone who has been in contact with our colleague and the centre itself will be deep cleaned before re-opening on Thursday.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>CJS News speaks exclusively to a Sky call centre employee about the reaction to the outbreak in their building.
