Tutti Frutti shakes up the club scene<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The past year has been a tragic and scary time for women in the UK and Ireland. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sarah Everard was murdered in March last year by a serving Met police officer, while Ashling Murphy was killed in an attack in Ireland when she was out for a run. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Such visible violence against women coupled with the reports of spiking levels in UK cities at the end of last year has raised concern and prompted action.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

One of those forms of action is “Tutti Frutti”, a new Tuesday club night in Revolution’s that has its launch party today. It has the usual stuff you would expect for a student club night out; \u00a31 entry, \u00a31 drinks, \u00a32 doubles. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, it also provides the city with its first-ever girls-only room, which includes its own DJ and bar, while all the staff – including bouncers and bartenders – are female.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Managing Director of Move Together, Alex Chesterton, which is organising the event, says the idea came from his female staff members. He thinks it will create a safe space for women by allowing them to move into the room if they begin to feel uncomfortable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, the President of Cardiff University’s Feminist Society, Bethany Magennis Prior, believes the new room is not the solution to a very complex problem. She says that it is not the best measure and does not address the problem.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Students in Cathays were split on the event, querying where trans people fitted in, while there was a running theme of sadness that such a room is even needed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
