This is where people carry out dental work on themselves or asking somebody else who is not a dentist.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This comes after the Welsh Government stated that an investment of \u00a32million would <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.wales\/over-100000-extra-dental-appointments-year-missed-appointments-continue-bite\">create more than one hundred thousand new dental appointments.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\"><p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">We want everyone in Wales to be able to access NHS dental care. <br><br>From this year, we\u2019re providing an additional \u00a32 million a year to increase access to dental services throughout Wales.<br><br>This should lead to over 100,000 new NHS patient appointments.<br>\ud83d\udc47<a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/9vndeEENME\">https:\/\/t.co\/9vndeEENME<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/IS7qN5mZCh\">pic.twitter.com\/IS7qN5mZCh<\/a><\/p>&mdash; Welsh Government Health and Social Care (@WGHealthandCare) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/WGHealthandCare\/status\/1611294064413970433?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">January 6, 2023<\/a><\/blockquote><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>However, dentists feel that they&#8217;re being ignored by the government.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In <a href=\"https:\/\/bda.org\/news-centre\/blog\/Documents\/230120-CR-BDAW-letter-CDO-FINAL.pdf\">an open letter<\/a> to the Welsh Government\u2019s Chief Dental Officer Andrew Dickenson, the British Dental Association said that dentists are turning to private practices due to lack of help. They also claim there&#8217;s a major decline in dentists\u2019 mental health.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><em><strong>&#8220;Le<\/strong>ft languishing on the waiting list&#8221;<\/em><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Opposition doesn&#8217;t end here, with members of the public voicing their concerns and worries on social media.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\"><p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">We\u2019ve been paying for private dental care for 15 + years in Wales, no chance of getting a decent NHS dentist<\/p>&mdash; NineLivesEmma (@NineLivesEmma) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/NineLivesEmma\/status\/1616028797551230976?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">January 19, 2023<\/a><\/blockquote><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Jane Dodds MS, Leader of the Welsh Liberal Democrats, says that dental care in Wales only favours those who can afford it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWhat we discovered since is there really is a two-tier system here in Wales where, if you have the money, you can pay and go private. If you can&#8217;t you are left languishing on a waiting list.\u201d Ms Dodds said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Russell George MS, Shadow Health Minister for the Welsh Conservatives, says that Wales needs to look at their approach, especially with financial pressures from the cost-of-living crisis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re calling on the Labour Government in Cardiff Bay to match devolved levels of spending on NHS dentistry before more people are forced to go private or rip out their own teeth in the middle of a cost-of-living crisis.\u201d Mr Russell said when asked about the party&#8217;s thoughts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Welsh Government have been approached for a comment but are yet to reply.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For more stories across South East Wales, <a
