He says, along with other residents, he&#8217;s &#8220;disappointed&#8221; with Cardiff Bus&#8217;s decision not to have a service on the street.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019ve got a community WhatsApp group and there is quite a lot of frustration that the bus route&#8217;s been removed in the way it has\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In a tweet, Cardiff Bus said the service has been changed because of safety reasons. The nearest bus service now travels down Cathays Terrace. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\"><p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">This service now goes via Cathays Terrace rather than Gelligaer Street due the alterations on the junction on Gelligaer Street. This service has been changed for safety purposes as it would be dangerous to run a service on this new junction. I apologise for any inconvenience.<\/p>&mdash; Cardiff bus (@Cardiffbus) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Cardiffbus\/status\/1633801108656144385?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">March 9, 2023<\/a><\/blockquote><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Although Ceri Davies accepts &#8220;there is an element of safety&#8221; behind the decision, he argues &#8220;you don&#8217;t simply withdraw a bus service like that. You mitigate the issue by re-engineering what you built in terms of the active travel&#8221;. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He says he supports Cardiff&#8217;s active travel efforts, but also &#8220;wants to encourage people to use public transport, and not encourage car use&#8221;. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dr Justin Spinney is a cycling expert and lecturer in Human Geography at Cardiff University. You&#8217;ve effectively given some people an option of active travel but the option of public transport on that route has been taken away&#8221;. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;I&#8217;d always prioritise public transport. It&#8217;s generally more inclusive&#8221;. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dr Spinney doesn&#8217;t understand Cardiff Bus&#8217;s decision, and says he &#8220;would love to be a fly on the wall in terms of why they&#8217;ve actually done this.
