So instead, pick out the perfect record or CD at a charity shop, independent store or the revived HMV, and just let it spin. Of course you&#8217;ll need a CD player but we&#8217;re sure there&#8217;s one laying around in your parents&#8217; garage somewhere. At least, this should get you out of your \u201cVampire Alien Grind Deathcore&#8221; phase. Whatever the f*ck that is.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-media-text has-media-on-the-right is-stacked-on-mobile\" style=\"grid-template-columns:auto 38%\"><div class=\"wp-block-media-text__content\">\n<p>Just take a moment to think: when was the last time you bought a physical piece of music? The majority of us probably can&#8217;t recall when we last did that. And who can blame us, when most artists&#8217; entire discography is available to stream? Have a chat with the people working in independent record stores, charity shops, or even chains like HMV or CeX &#8211; they&#8217;re there to help.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>DITCH <\/em> took some time to speak to James Willicombe, the manager of family-run Kelly\u2019s Records in Cardiff, about how to find your own taste in music, without the judgy algorithm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>James suggests chatting to employees about their go to album at the moment. By approaching employees, you get a natural, flowing conversation and can bounce off each other&#8217;s ideas. Who knows, you might even make a new friend that you have stuff in common with.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;Most dedicated record stores will have a &#8216;what\u2019s hot this week&#8217; section, with all the latest stuff you can browse through to find something new and different,&#8221; he said, adding that one of his most unusual finds was new in stock: A Barry Butlins seven inch vinyl had found its way into the store, with only the Butlin&#8217;s<a href=\"https:\/\/open.spotify.com\/track\/6zwvB879PJSpTyFcg2wwnL?si=90cb373df5d24c85\"> theme song<\/a> on it (if that\u2019s not nostalgia, I don\u2019t know what is).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-2c0498c5e2e0d4f43823164b77b03cb8\" style=\"color:#e9ff00\">More tips:<br><br>Play a game at radio roulette, where you pick random radio stations and see if you like them &#8211; you can discover entirely new genres or even just a sexy single you might like.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-c2df72b3a70c589ea81f0b430739d602\" style=\"color:#e9ff00\">Trust your gut &#8211; Pick a record or CD purely by the cover. No googling, no asking anyone, just the vibe you get from the cover. Or better yet, just close your eyes and pick one.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-7c57cc4c11d09efbf1d7a67a75b127bd\" style=\"color:#e9ff00\">Finally, why not look at indie music mags,  they will often highlight the artists you haven\u2019t heard of. Or if you want to become a serious indie music fanatic, go see a local band, open mic night, or follow the support act at a gig.
