I am proposing my project: Artificial Herbality.
Gardening is an unpredictable experience where many factors remain uncertain to even the most experienced of gardeners. Uncertainty arises from many areas of gardening which stimulates questions such as: how frequently does this plant need to be watered? Does this plant prefer to be indoors, outdoors or in a greenhouse? Does the soil in my local area support the plants I want? My project aims to provide answers for these questions and give users reassurance for their gardening experience and simultaneously bring people closer to the environment. Artificial Herbality will fill gaps in the current market and in audience engagement which will ultimately aid in the project’s success. Artificial Herbality is a downloadable augmented reality (AR) app that is available on any smart mobile device and is used to explore the development of plants according to the user’s specific contextual factors. Artificial Herbality uses OpenCV and 3D modelling to identify plants and then superimposes a model of the plant onto the user interface hence creating an immersive AR environment. This allows users to explore their gardens and wildlife as well as creating an individualised story that is waiting to happen.
The image below shows a mockup of the user interface in a real life scenario, in particular this highlights the development of growth phases of the detected plant , that the user will be able to access through the Growth Phases toggle.
Artificial Herbality aims to create a whole new way of how users view their back gardens, parks, house plants, and the great outdoors by the use of sophisticated AR technologies. Artificial Herabality gives its users a snapshot of their future garden and answer key questions about their garden’s specific needs for users to achieve their vision.
