Virtual Futures

Executive Summary:
Technology plays an essential role in providing “an accessible future of work” (Ruh, 2021, n.p). Virtual reality (VR) is a new form of technology that has created new opportunities in the workplace and increased accessibility to training and work experience.

My proposed project, Virtual Futures aims to utilise VR to minimise barriers to career entry for young adults in the UK by offering accessible work experience and entry-level training across a variety of career paths, through immersive and engaging videos and interactive activities. This could vary from experiencing work as a camera operator, setting up rigs and capturing footage, to learning about mechanics and simulating fixing a machine.
Virtual Futures aims to improve users’ employability and ensure that career opportunities are available for everyone.

  1. The idea to make work experience across a range of careers is a very interesting and beneficial one. Making this more accessible should be a high priority and I can see how this could support those looking at certain sectors for careers.
It would be good to get a better sense of how the affordances of VR might benefit the target user, and what are the core industries you are looking at targeting? I can imagine call desk might not translate well to the medium.
