Concertive
“A Concert Experience Tailored To You, By You“
Music is considered the favoured and most important form of art and expression, as it holds the power to stimulate, educate, motivate, and inspire an infinite number of audiences (McMaster, 2017). This industry is just one of the numerous entertainment sectors, that have been negatively affected by the year long battle against the coronavirus pandemic. Concertive is a virtual reality (VR) concert experience, which aims to submerge, and guarantee to provide, users and performers with a reliable, cost effective and authentic concert experience; ensuring this industry will not get placed on pause again! This software is accessed through a mobile application, and for a further submerged experience, a headset.
Concertive coincidentally also alludes to a style of leadership, one that gives power to the people (Barker, 2001, p.40). Thus, this experience will too delegate all control to the users, which is a factor that will stay at the forefront of importance, as the platform will provide participants with the ability to tailor the concert specifically to them, through the numerous options available. These include the ability to choose how many concert sets one wishes to attend, as well as the user’s vantage point. With Concertive’s option for spatial, 360° audio, participants will also have the ability to enhance specific sound elements; choosing to maximise or minimise these features with a ‘hold and drag’ contraption, for a further tailored and immersive experience. Fundamentally, Concertive intends to provide users with the social inclusion and interaction of a concert, as well as suppling a new ease to attending live music events. The expense and time consuming travel pressures that surround concert attendance will be abolished, as now, the only requirement will be to open the application on your device, or apply your headset!

Nicholas Negroponte famously noted that, in time, “we will socialise in digital neighbourhoods in which physical space will be irrelevant” (1995, p. 8). Therefore, considering Concertive aspires to provide participants with the sensations of social inclusivity and interaction, as experienced within a live music event, it has been deduced that VR is the most appropriate form of delivery. VR has the most success in simulating experiences that are otherwise impossible with other media (Saker and Frith, 2020), which aligns with what this project envisions to achieve. Concertive is passionate with supplying users a digital concert environment, tailored to them by them, as well as for users to re- live the positive, communal feelings that live events provide audiences and artists with. Upon entrance into Concertive, users will be placed at a box office, where they will choose which concert they wish to attend. As indicated on the User Flow Diagram, there will be the option to attend: a singular artist’s concert, a specific genre concert that is filled of 3- 5 performers, or the option to ‘shuffle’ the genre’s and artists performing on that day. With these options, Concertive will encourage new demographics and fans for the performing artists, as well as providing another incentive for investors and more artists to use Concertive.
