Immersive Heritage & Folklore

Welcome to the Immersive Heritage & Folklore project.

This project aims to develop skills and knowledge in creating immersive storytelling experiences, in this case specifically for heritage sites and cultural representation.

The project will focus on developing the knowledge and skillset associated with the development of interactive, immersive experiences through interdisciplinary workshops which will bridge the gap between storytelling, media and culture, languages, art & design, computer science and music.

The aim; to develop skills and knowledge in project development, communication and team building, as well as core skills in programming, real time game engines, interaction design, creative directing, producing, UX Design, and motion and volumetric capture.

This will be done through collaborative projects which encourage actively engaging with team members with differing skillsets and knowledge as well as a wider community to help inform and iterate the design of immersive experiences that focus on the retelling of Welsh folklore and heritage/history.

Process

Participants will be encouraged to work in an interdisciplinary context, working with key stakeholders, specialists and communities to develop projects which help to better understand Welsh folklore at key heritage sites based around Cardiff, and surrounding areas.

Workshops will aim to develop project management, communication and team building skills alongside specific skills in UX design for immersive experiences, immersive storytelling, photogrammetry, interaction design and 3D modelling.

Students will also work closely with communities and heritage & historical organisations to develop content which helps to increase public awareness of the rich Welsh folklore and of immersive content and technologies.

These projects will be supported and developed through a series of workshops and masterclasses, plus online mentoring sessions, held over 6 weeks.
