And gave it to them (publishers). And tell them here we go, it&#8217;s 38,000 words \u00a0and they read it,and they thought great! we&#8217;ll publish this. I&#8217;m not sure to this day if it was 28,000. But I knew that if I sent it to them electronically, it&#8217;s just immediately gonna work out like &#8216;it&#8217;s gonna be too short&#8217;,&#8221; said Jones.<br \/>\n<figure id=\"attachment_18243\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-18243\" style=\"width: 625px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-18243 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/cardiffjournalism.co.uk\/intercardiff\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/12\/2016\/12\/Talk-625x349.jpg\" alt=\"talk\" width=\"625\" height=\"349\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-18243\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><noscript><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-18243 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/cardiffjournalism.co.uk\/intercardiff\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/12\/2016\/12\/Talk-625x349.jpg\" alt=\"talk\" width=\"625\" height=\"349\" \/><\/noscript> The talk was very casual and the audiences had enough opportunities to ask a question to Jones.<\/figcaption><\/figure><br \/>\nIn fact, his first piece was not<em> The Long Dry<\/em>, because what he wrote first\u00a0was an 18,000 words book, which was regarded to be too short to be published as a book.<br \/>\nAlthough Jones was told that his first piece should be 4-5 times bigger to be published, he didn&#8217;t change the length.<br \/>\nEventually, the first short piece became a part of an anthology.<br \/>\nHe said: &#8220;I wasn&#8217;t trying to be being stubborn.
