Some of them will surprise you.<\/span><\/h2>\n<h3>1. Japan &#8211;\u00a0Valentine&#8217;s Day is a treat for male\u00a0only<\/h3>\n<p>Westerners might spend Valentine&#8217;s Day indulging their partners with reciprocated love. But in Japan, female would not get their return until March 14 every year.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-20678\" src=\"https:\/\/cardiffjournalism.co.uk\/intercardiff\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/12\/2017\/02\/VDayWhiteDay-625x354.jpg\" alt=\"VDayWhiteDay\" width=\"625\" height=\"354\" \/><noscript><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-20678\" src=\"https:\/\/cardiffjournalism.co.uk\/intercardiff\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/12\/2017\/02\/VDayWhiteDay-625x354.jpg\" alt=\"VDayWhiteDay\" width=\"625\" height=\"354\" \/><\/noscript><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Reo Tanaka, male, PhD student, said:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cWe draw a very clear line between Valentine\u2019s Day (Feb 14) and White Day (March 14). Valentine\u2019s Day is traditionally the day for girls to express their admiration to boys and White Day is the opposite. Most of the Japanese stick tight to this rule. Usually girls will present handmade chocolates, or buy some, to show their feelings. Interestingly, I know some impatient girls find that one-month wait a real torture, like my wife!\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<h3>2. South Korea &#8211; Black noodles on Black Day<\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Like Japanese, South Koreans celebrate Valentine\u2019s Day and White Day too. We call it \u2018Black Day\u2019. People who haven&#8217;t receive anything from the previous two months will eat black noodles, that\u2019s \u2018Jajangmyeon\u2019 alone or with company. Thailand &#8211; <span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Loi Krathong in November (or \u2018Water Lantern Festival\u2019)<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>November is the month for Valentine&#8217;s in Thailand, not February! The exact date varies every year as it depends on the lunar calendar. Couples will create a little boat-of-luck with banana tree trunks and their leaves. They will then light a candle at the middle of it and put the boat on the water. It is very romantic and picturesque.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<h3>4. I guess it&#8217;s because Ugandans would trust supermarkets over street vendors when it comes to edible products. Work goes on but there are a few people who dress up in the traditional red and black attire whether for work that day or a date.
