This event was followed by a March against Racism in Cardiff on 17 March.<\/h3>\n<figure id=\"attachment_31855\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-31855\" style=\"width: 625px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-31855 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/cardiffjournalism.co.uk\/intercardiff\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/12\/2018\/03\/Calais_refugee_camp_3-625x374.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"625\" height=\"374\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-31855\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><noscript><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-31855 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/cardiffjournalism.co.uk\/intercardiff\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/12\/2018\/03\/Calais_refugee_camp_3-625x374.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"625\" height=\"374\" \/><\/noscript> Living conditions of children in Calais<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Produced by documentary film maker Sue Clayton, the film is being screened across cities in the UK to spread awareness about the situation of over 2000 unaccompanied refugee children who found themselves stranded in the jungles of Calais with little help from authorities of both countries, France and the UK.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_31903\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-31903\" style=\"width: 625px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-31903\" src=\"https:\/\/cardiffjournalism.co.uk\/intercardiff\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/12\/2018\/03\/IMG_0384-625x302.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"625\" height=\"302\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-31903\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><noscript><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-31903\" src=\"https:\/\/cardiffjournalism.co.uk\/intercardiff\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/12\/2018\/03\/IMG_0384-625x302.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"625\" height=\"302\" \/><\/noscript> Documentary film maker Sue Clayton delivering a speech before the screening<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Documentary maker Sue Clayton says, \u201cWe don\u2019t have the problem of so called refugees because they are stuck at Calais and we don\u2019t have anyone there to process them.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Through her film, Sue has held up a mirror to the UK and the way it has dealt with the refugees.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Soon after France asked for help, assuring that it would take care of adults but wanted the UK to take responsibility of minors, the UK discontinued its Dubs Amendment under which Britain accepted child refugees.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBecause the UK voted for Brexit [\u2026] the French said we\u2019ll take care of the adults but we do expect the British to come and take care of the children because of the two pieces of legislation the EU and the UK law Britain has the responsibility of those children that should have already been in the UK\u201d says Sue.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The UK, since 2016, has accepted 200 refugee children under the Dubs Amendment. France, on the other hand, displaced various children to remote parts of the country with scares resources.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_31904\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-31904\" style=\"width: 625px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-31904\" src=\"https:\/\/cardiffjournalism.co.uk\/intercardiff\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/12\/2018\/03\/33017583754_80c34a3624_z-625x340.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"625\" height=\"340\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-31904\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><noscript><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-31904\" src=\"https:\/\/cardiffjournalism.co.uk\/intercardiff\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/12\/2018\/03\/33017583754_80c34a3624_z-625x340.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"625\" height=\"340\" \/><\/noscript> A look at the tents in the jungle of Calais<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The ones that were left behind in Calais were given a ten days of eviction notice after which they were made to live in containers. The authorities also made an attempt to clear out the jungle of Calais by burning it, well aware of the fact that there were thousands of children present in the area.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>In the midst of these events, 100 children went missing and many became victims of human trafficking.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>This year, in January fifteen children were reported to have been crushed after being hit by a lorry while attempting to cross borders from Calais into UK.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_31905\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-31905\" style=\"width: 625px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-31905\" src=\"https:\/\/cardiffjournalism.co.uk\/intercardiff\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/12\/2018\/03\/33017567324_0e2cd892da_o-625x343.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"625\" height=\"343\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-31905\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><noscript><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-31905\" src=\"https:\/\/cardiffjournalism.co.uk\/intercardiff\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/12\/2018\/03\/33017567324_0e2cd892da_o-625x343.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"625\" height=\"343\" \/><\/noscript> Refugees stranded in Calais were living in camps<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>One of the non-governmental organisations in UK that are working towards pressurising the government into accepting more refugee minors is Stand up to Racism.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Joe Redmens, Secretary of Stand Up to Racism Cardiff says \u201cQuiet of few of us have been to Calais supplying food and clothes over the past years.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_31906\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-31906\" style=\"width: 625px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-31906 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/cardiffjournalism.co.uk\/intercardiff\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/12\/2018\/03\/IMG_5958-625x469.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"625\" height=\"469\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-31906\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><noscript><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-31906 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/cardiffjournalism.co.uk\/intercardiff\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/12\/2018\/03\/IMG_5958-625x469.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"625\" height=\"469\" \/><\/noscript> Joe Redmens has visited the refugee sites in Calais himself<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>He says \u201cThe British Government had signed the Dubs Scheme under which they were suppose to bring in around 3000 minors to Britain but they closed the scheme about six months ago and they only took 300.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The law firm, Help Refugees is also involved in fighting for refugee children under Dubs Court Case to pursue the government to accept more minors struggling in Calais and other remote parts of France.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_31908\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-31908\" style=\"width: 625px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-31908\" src=\"https:\/\/cardiffjournalism.co.uk\/intercardiff\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/12\/2018\/03\/IMG_4560-625x469.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"625\" height=\"469\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-31908\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><noscript><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-31908\" src=\"https:\/\/cardiffjournalism.co.uk\/intercardiff\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/12\/2018\/03\/IMG_4560-625x469.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"625\" height=\"469\" \/><\/noscript> Campaigns against racism in Cardiff have been addressing the situation of Children in Calais<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Multiple NGOs are also reaching out to people in hopes of donations, which will then be used to help the children in Calais.
