The tolls owners Severn River Crossing PLC were the ones maintaining both bridges and earned up to 10 million pounds a year.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_36670\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-36670\" style=\"width: 625px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-36670\" src=\"https:\/\/cardiffjournalism.co.uk\/intercardiff\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/12\/2018\/12\/image2-1-625x352.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"625\" height=\"352\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-36670\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><noscript><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-36670\" src=\"https:\/\/cardiffjournalism.co.uk\/intercardiff\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/12\/2018\/12\/image2-1-625x352.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"625\" height=\"352\" \/><\/noscript> Around 20,000 vehicles use the bridge every day<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The change won\u2019t be sudden as temporary lanes will be installed on 14 December to see to a smooth transition. However, this historic change will have an impact on small businesses and housing rates in the surrounding areas of Severn Bridge.<\/p>\n<p>According to Richard Krepner, Manager at Elstons Estage Agents in Chepstow, &#8220;The housing prices stated rising in the Chepstow area as soon as the government announced that the tolls are being scrapped.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;More and more businesses will look to relocate their distribution centers and offices to the area as the rents on commercial space are lower than Bristol. It is good news for the South Wales economy&#8221; adds Mr. Krepner.<\/p>\n<p>The Severn bridge toll has been in service since 1966 and has been an integral part of communication between England and Wales.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_36666\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-36666\" style=\"width: 625px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-36666\" src=\"https:\/\/cardiffjournalism.co.uk\/intercardiff\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/12\/2018\/12\/image-3-625x352.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"625\" height=\"352\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-36666\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><noscript><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-36666\" src=\"https:\/\/cardiffjournalism.co.uk\/intercardiff\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/12\/2018\/12\/image-3-625x352.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"625\" height=\"352\" \/><\/noscript> Commuters are hoping more free-flowing traffic after the tolls are scrapped<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>To see it being \u201cscrapped\u201d this year will have consequences on every front.
