(Image: Ed Everett, Flickr)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">With less than 1000 hours until Britain\u2019s proposed <a href=\"https:\/\/cardiffjournalism.co.uk\/intercardiff\/global-city\/brexit-means-brexit-but-what-does-brexit-mean-for-wales\">departure<\/a> from the EU, blue shirts with yellow printed stars began to trickle through the door of Cathays Community Centre.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">It was a drizzly Saturday morning, but that didn\u2019t deter the small but determined crowd from making their way to this corner of Cardiff to hear from local MPs and campaigners.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The gathering, organised by group <a href=\"https:\/\/labourpeoplesvote.org\/\">\u2018Labour for a People\u2019s Vote\u2019<\/a> attracted individuals of all ages, from Cardiff and beyond.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Their aim? In 2016, Jo Stevens\u2019 Cardiff Central constituency voted 68% remain. Now, that figure would be 77%.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cI wasn\u2019t old enough to vote [in 2016] and basically I just can\u2019t believe it\u2019s still happening. The hate that has come out of it is so infuriating,\u201d says Izzy, 19, the youngest face in the crowd.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">And she\u2019s not alone. The anger at the current situation is palpable amongst the small but vocal group of people in the hall.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>.embed-container { position: relative; padding-bottom: 56.25%; height: 0; overflow: hidden; max-width: 100%; } .embed-container iframe, .embed-container object, .embed-container embed { position: absolute; top: 0; left: 0; width: 100%; height: 100%; }<\/p>\n<div class=\"embed-container\"><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Echoing this frustration, Labour MP for Cardiff North, <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/AnnaMcMorrin\">Anna McMorrin<\/a>, says, \u201cAfter my speech on Thursday in the House of Commons, I got a tirade of abuse on social media, mainly telling me that I\u2019m a traitor and that I could say nothing good about this country.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cI\u2019m deeply saddened by the state of politics, by this situation that we have got ourselves into. More than that, I am deeply saddened for our children, the next generation coming through.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">McMorrin\u2019s speech on Thursday was on the \u2018UK\u2019s Withdrawal from the EU,\u2019 in which she criticised the treatment of Europeans living in the UK and the worries of her constituents in Cardiff North.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The future of business in a post-Brexit Wales was also a hot topic in the room.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Daryl Gordon says, \u201cMany Welsh jobs are reliant on frictionless, tariff free trade with the EU. 44% of Wales&#8217; top 300 largest employers are based in manufacturing and engineering. But for being in the EU. That\u2019s the best deal that we have,&#8221; says Anna McMorrin, Labour MP for Cardiff North.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">There are also concerns that businesses are not speaking out loudly enough against Brexit.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/JoStevensLabour\">Jo Stevens<\/a>, Labour MP for Cardiff Central, says, \u201cI visit lots of business and I\u2019ve not yet met a single one that has told me that leaving the EU would be a good idea.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cThey need to stop being so timid and stop worrying that they\u2019re becoming too party-political. They can say what they want. Give examples, tell him your point of view as Labour Party members. It\u2019s got to be headed up by people that others will listen to and make an emotional connection with.
