How can female entrepreneurs manage that work\/life balance?<\/h2>\n<figure id=\"attachment_40587\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-40587\" style=\"width: 625px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-40587 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/cardiffjournalism.co.uk\/intercardiff\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/12\/2019\/03\/possible-feature-1-625x352.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"625\" height=\"352\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-40587\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><noscript><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-40587 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/cardiffjournalism.co.uk\/intercardiff\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/12\/2019\/03\/possible-feature-1-625x352.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"625\" height=\"352\" \/><\/noscript> <strong>Managing childcare and workload can prove challenging for today&#8217;s female entrepreneurs.<\/strong><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Cardiff\u2019s female entrepreneurs will have the chance to celebrate mothers in business this week, at the It\u2019s About Time Summit at the Village Hotel.<\/p>\n<p>Organised by NatWest Cymru, the University of South Wales, and BizMums, It\u2019s About Time will feature successful Welsh businesswomen as keynote speakers and a question and answer forum with a high profile female panel.<\/p>\n<p>Gemma Collins, who is one of the event\u2019s organisers and works for NatWest, was eager to support mothers in business due to her personal experience. \u201cHaving fairly recently returned to work from maternity leave myself,\u201d she says, \u201cthe phenomenon of women setting up in business after having children rather than returning to their corporate jobs was much more noticeable to me.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_40589\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-40589\" style=\"width: 625px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-40589\" src=\"https:\/\/cardiffjournalism.co.uk\/intercardiff\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/12\/2019\/03\/women-supporting-625x351.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"625\" height=\"351\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-40589\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><noscript><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-40589\" src=\"https:\/\/cardiffjournalism.co.uk\/intercardiff\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/12\/2019\/03\/women-supporting-625x351.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"625\" height=\"351\" \/><\/noscript> <strong>It&#8217;s About Time will bring businesswomen together to support each other with their work\/life balance.<\/strong><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Collins and Christine Atkinson from The University of South Wales\u2019 Women\u2019s Entrepreneurship Hub worked together and decided to organise an event for those mums to try to offer them support.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cChristine did some research into mums running their own businesses,\u201d says Collins, \u201cand realised that the theme of time was coming through quite strongly &#8211; whether it be mothers never seeming to have enough time or mothers worrying about the right time to take the leap into self-employment &#8211; so we hit upon the theme of \u2018It\u2019s About Time\u2019 for our event.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The summit will attempt to tackle and discuss many of the challenges faced by women in business, such as the jump from employment to self-employment, how the goals of mothers in business change over time, and juggling childcare and work responsibilities.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_40597\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-40597\" style=\"width: 625px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-40597\" src=\"https:\/\/cardiffjournalism.co.uk\/intercardiff\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/12\/2019\/03\/WelshMother-625x351.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"625\" height=\"351\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-40597\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><noscript><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-40597\" src=\"https:\/\/cardiffjournalism.co.uk\/intercardiff\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/12\/2019\/03\/WelshMother-625x351.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"625\" height=\"351\" \/><\/noscript> <strong>Ceri Gillet runs This Welsh Mother, a blog offering advice for mothers in business. (\u00a9 This Welsh Mother)<\/strong><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Ceri Gillett, one of the summit\u2019s panelists, runs This Welsh Mother &#8211; a blog designed to offer support and advice for mothers running their own businesses. \u201cI\u2019m not sure work\/life balance really exists,\u201d she says. \u201cBut when you become a mother you have to put someone else\u2019s needs, or a whole host of people\u2019s needs, before your own. So trying to get balance when you have so many different factors to take into consideration is really hard.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Collins acknowledges that there has been an increase in support for women in the workplace in recent years, but says that more can be done to help. \u201cIt\u2019s undoubtedly easier than it used to be to be a mother in business,\u201d she says, \u201cbut there\u2019s plenty of evidence that, in general, women still take on the bulk of the childcare responsibilities in addition to whatever occupation they do.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Natwest Entrepreneur Accelerator Hub is one example of support systems that are accessible for businesswomen, says Collins, but many are unaware about these programs. \u201cPerhaps it is a case of shouting a bit louder about it, and making sure that every entrepreneur, man or woman, knows about these opportunities.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_40600\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-40600\" style=\"width: 625px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-40600\" src=\"https:\/\/cardiffjournalism.co.uk\/intercardiff\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/12\/2019\/03\/BizMums-625x351.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"625\" height=\"351\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-40600\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><noscript><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-40600\" src=\"https:\/\/cardiffjournalism.co.uk\/intercardiff\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/12\/2019\/03\/BizMums-625x351.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"625\" height=\"351\" \/><\/noscript> <strong>BizMums, one of the event&#8217;s organisers, runs business support meeting where mothers can bring their children.
