For our day of #GreenCardiff2019 we took to the city&#8217;s streets to ask how Cardiffians feel about green space in their city.<\/p>\n<h3>Clive, 82. Retired.<\/h3>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-43130\" src=\"https:\/\/cardiffjournalism.co.uk\/intercardiff\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/12\/2019\/04\/clive-625x351.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"625\" height=\"351\" \/><noscript><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-43130\" src=\"https:\/\/cardiffjournalism.co.uk\/intercardiff\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/12\/2019\/04\/clive-625x351.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"625\" height=\"351\" \/><\/noscript><\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey\u2019re going to put flats everywhere eventually, this is what distinguishes a country is how they bring in the environment, its changing and not for the better in many ways in my opinion. The politicians represent business people\u2019s commercial interest, they\u2019re not bothered.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCountries will carry on what they\u2019re doing now, commercial exploitation, that\u2019s what it\u2019s all about in the end, how can business benefit from countries.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI must admit they\u2019ve cleaned up the Taff no end.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey cut down trees in Cardiff on the road that leads to Caerphilly, they had over 35 or 40 cherry flower trees up the road there, road improvements they said, but they did put 15 back, only half what they took out, I thought that\u2019s better than nothing.\u201d<\/p>\n<h3>Leslie, 70. Executive Assistant.<\/h3>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-43174\" src=\"https:\/\/cardiffjournalism.co.uk\/intercardiff\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/12\/2019\/04\/rachelrhiannon-625x352.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"625\" height=\"352\" \/><noscript><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-43174\" src=\"https:\/\/cardiffjournalism.co.uk\/intercardiff\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/12\/2019\/04\/rachelrhiannon-625x352.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"625\" height=\"352\" \/><\/noscript><\/p>\n<p>Rhiannon \u2013 \u201cFor the health benefits but also for your mental wellbeing it&#8217;s better to get away from your desk.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Rachel \u2013 \u201cI\u2019m always surprised by the diversity of the wildlife in this park especially (Bute Park).\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Rhiannon \u2013 \u201cThey could try and do more if you look at places like Singapore where although it\u2019s a really built up place they deliberately plant trees on the tops of buildings to integrate the green spaces into the city. It would be good if they started to do that in Cardiff and using the unused verges by the side of the road for small trees and plants.\u201d<\/p>\n<h3>Jessica &amp; Holly. Students. We were just saying how its nice people are here sitting down socialising, nobody seems to be on their phones its everyone\u2019s enjoying the surroundings.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Jessica \u2013 \u201cIt\u2019s healthier for people, it gets people walking, taking the dogs out and things.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Tash \u2013 \u201cI quite like when you\u2019re walking through the streets if there are plant pots and trees I like to see that in the city centre, but I also think it&#8217;s nice to step into it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Jessica \u2013 \u201cIt\u2019s like a break, if it was in the city I think people would take it for granted, here you can take a break away from it.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The green space and urban wildlife of Cardiff are central to its identity.
