The English name, Snowdon is derived from the Saxon snow dune which means snow hill.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Rhianedd Grug Gwilym, a Welsh girl who\u2019s an active speaker and user of the language, said,&#8221; I think it\u2019s important to change the name. We all as Welsh people are quite proud of our heritage and the names of our towns or mountains in this case. It\u2019s all because it makes sense.&#8220;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Welsh comedian Tudur Owen has been actively promoting and encouraging people to use more of the Welsh language in day-to-day life. While talking to BBC about this, he said, \u201cIt takes a couple of tries to correct your pronunciation but then after that, you\u2019ll learn how to say it beautifully.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\"><p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">As you know I do like a bandwagon but this is important. Roman, Anglo-Saxon, Viking, Anglo-Norman, and modern English being some major influencers.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While there are a lot of Welsh people like Rhianedd and Tudur Owen supporting and actively promoting the change of names to Welsh, some feel it\u2019s just about people and their freedom.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While that is a neutral take to this decision, there are a number of people who might be one of the reasons behind such decisions being taken by the people of Wales.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\"><p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">If we in Wales have been able to learn to say Leicestershire, Loughborough, Worcestershire, Alnwick Godmanchester &amp; Towcester then there&#39;s really no excuse to get the name of our highest mountain wrong.<br><br>Yr Wyddfa = &quot;ER-WITH-VA&quot;<br><br>I respect your language. She said, \u201cThe curriculum right now is boring. While I understand grammar is important, it can\u2019t be just about that. Students won\u2019t be interested in that. Teachers can start off with day-to-day sentences like \u2018I want to go shopping\u2019 or \u2018I want to go out for dinner\u2019. Grammar can be taught simultaneously.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In hindsight, having done all her schooling in Welsh, Rhianedd found it hard to cope with classes later on when they were taught in English. \u201cI found it hard to converse in English. My classmates from England who spoke English all their life used to do it seamlessly\u201d, she said.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Although the people in Wales are in favour of the park authority\u2019s decision to retain the Welsh name Yr Wyddfa, it might take some time for all the people to adapt to the new one.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Samuel Jones, a man who\u2019s lived in Wales his whole life said, \u201cI don\u2019t think it should be made mandatory. Even if Snowdon\u2019s name is changed to Yr Wyddfa, not many people would adopt the new name immediately. It takes years and sometimes decades for people to adapt to new names.
