Shop owner distraught after Christmas goods stolen

‘We have killed ourselves to get this stock together… so thank you for pretty much ruining us’

THE OWNER of a pet and garden shop in Whitchurch has expressed her despair after a range of Christmas goods were stolen.

Aquapets Whitchurch on Merthyr Road was burgled at around 3:30am on Monday. Christmas products including wreaths, giant inflatables and lights were stolen.

Lisa Jane, who took over the shop with her son in 2018, said in a Facebook post: “The giant inflatables will not be out to make the kiddies smile as along with most of our Christmas stock they have been stolen.

“We have killed ourselves to get this stock together. Yesterday was my first day off in a month and neither of us have been paid in over a month in order to buy the Christmas stock, so thank you, you utter scum, for pretty much ruining us.”

Aquapets was previously burgled in 2019 but this time much more was taken. South Wales Police believe a vehicle was used to carry the stolen goods from the scene due to the amount of missing items.

Ms Jane said: “We cannot work any harder to bring the community a good business. There are no more hours in the day.”

She has urged anybody who is offered any of the goods listed above to do “the right thing” and report them.

Since posting on the shop’s Facebook page and the MyWhitchurch group, Ms Jane has been inundated with offers to set up a GoFundMe page to cover the losses, and with advice on setting up CCTV and Ring doorbells to prevent future burglaries.
