bake sale.<\/strong><\/figcaption><\/figure><br \/>\nThe girls have been running the annual sale since they were eight and nine, helped by their mothers Debbie Wharton and Amanda Burdge.<br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Mrs Burdge\u00a0said: \u201c<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">They leafleted all the neighbours, asked them to bake cakes and everyone came along to buy items.\u201d<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Martha said she and Freya both enjoyed fundraising. <\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cWe both have our own dogs and we like to fundraise for another charity, as well as Children in Need,&#8221; I like how the whole community gets involved.\u201d <\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Mrs Wharton said the bake sale was always a big success because of huge support from the community. <\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cLast year it was hammering down with rain and we had to do it inside in the kitchen. The kitchen was packed and they were queuing outside the door.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cBut the fact that people still came shows there is still a lot of community spirit involved in it. Otherwise, it wouldn\u2019t go ahead.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cThey\u2019ve raised over \u00a31,500 so far for Children in Need. They also choose a different dog charity each year and raise funds for them as well.\u201d <\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Mrs Burdge\u00a0said: \u201cChildren in Need is really close to children. Our daughters see other children who aren\u2019t as fortunate as them and they just want to help them as much as they can. <\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cWe\u2019ve adopted a dog from Hope Rescue and Martha and her family have a dog too. So they thought that was something that they\u2019d really like to raise money for.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cWe\u2019ve got some really great neighbours and we\u2019re overwhelmed by the support that we get.\u201d <\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The event raised \u00a3500 for Children in Need and \u00a3114 for Hope Rescue.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A CHARITY bake sale was organised by two Whitchurch children last weekend to raise money for Children in Need and dog\u2019s charity Hope Rescue.
