The fall in numbers is being blamed on parking restrictions on the road.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Although it is free to park on Holton Road, parking is unavailable from 6am to noon Monday to Saturday and after that\u00a0is limited to two hours.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Jill Thompson, 50, from Bridgend has worked at Foster Footwear for 20 years. She said: \u201cThe council is rubbish. Business has been worse since they put the parking restrictions in place.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cYou can only park for two hours and you can\u2019t park before midday. This means that we don\u2019t have any customers until then and the day\u2019s half gone.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cOver the past two years the town has been in decline. No one is coming to Barry anymore.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cYou can see this in other ways too. There are more fights on the street. There\u2019s a lot of drinking and drug taking too.\u201d<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Victoria Williams, 45, from Rhoose is also a employee of Foster Footwear. She said: \u201cThe town is not the same anymore. You can see it\u2019s run down. All the shops are becoming franchises and bars.\u201d<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Other nearby shop owners are concerned. One woman, who wished to remain anonymous, said: \u201cI\u2019ve seen four shops close down in the last month. This road is going to be full of charity shops and pound shops. That\u2019s when you know you\u2019re in trouble.\u201d<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Terry Heath, 72 from Newport is the owner of JKS Jewellery on Holton Road. He said: \u201cThis used to be the best resort around. This road used to be full of people. The beach was full of people. But now, we\u2019ve been forgotten about.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cThe council cares more about attracting people to the docks. They want us out the way so they can build more flats.\u201d<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Kyle Malen, 30, from St Helen\u2019s, Cardiff, an employee at JKS Jewellery, said: \u201cThe council don\u2019t care about the small businesses. We\u2019re struggling as it is. We\u2019ve got an Asda with a jeweller&#8217;s on site with a free car park, so why would people want to come here?<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cThey built a car park for shoppers, but it\u2019s always full of shop owners&#8217; cars because there\u2019s nowhere else to go.\u201d<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Vale of Glamorgan Council was asked for a comment.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A SHOP that has been open for 34 years on Holton Road is closing because of dwindling numbers of shoppers in Barry town-centre.
