I couldn\u2019t believe it so I went back through the paperwork to check.\u201d<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cAbout 90 per cent of the cats that come in are stray,\u201d Mrs Mason adds.\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cWe\u2019ve found cats in carrier bags, cats in boxes that are taped up. We\u2019ve had cats covered in bleach and covered in diesel.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">&#8220;There are still lots of people shooting and poisoning cats.\u201d<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The\u00a0three friends were inspired by the huge demand for cat rescue centres and the rising number of strays found in Ely, St Mellons and Llanederyn.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">&#8220;There are only two big cat rescue centres in Cardiff,\u201d Mrs Mason says. \u201cAt the other centre I was at there was a 17-page list of cats waiting to come in. That tells you how much demand there is.\u201d<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cWe\u2019re inundated with calls every day,\u201d Mrs Thomas adds. It is rewarding but hard work, everything you do is around the cats,\u201d says Mrs Mason.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cI can\u2019t remember the last time I didn\u2019t do a home check on my birthday,\u201d Mrs Stobart adds.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">However as a self-funded charity a more pressing issue lies in paying the hefty monthly vet&#8217;s bill.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Mrs Thomas explains: \u201cWe easily spend a grand a month at the vet&#8217;s. We\u2019re all self-funded. We\u2019ve worked out that it costs us \u00a3150 per cat to get them vaccinated and neutered and that\u2019s without taking food and litter into account. <\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cWe\u2019d never leave a cat without what it needs, even if it means a \u00a3700 vet&#8217;s bill.\u201d<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cIt\u2019s hard work trying to think how to keep making money,\u201d Mrs Thomas tells me. \u201cYou can\u2019t not fundraise -it\u2019s constant.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cI go through 400 sachets of cat food a week, we\u2019ve got to get it paid for somehow.\u201d<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Thankfully the\u00a0trio rely on help from their 3,000 Facebook followers, be it through those sponsoring cats who cannot be rehomed or donations given through their Paypal account. <\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cPeople are so generous it&#8217;s unbelievable,\u201d Mrs Thomas adds.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Despite the pressures of fundraising though the ladies conclude that no matter how stressful, the work is always worth it after seeing a cat successfully rehomed.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cYou first see a cat starving and it might even have kittens,\u201d Mrs Mason says. \u201cThen you give it good food and its skin and fur gets better and it starts to purr.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cIt\u2019s lovely when we get videos and photos of cat when they\u2019re settled into a new home.\u201d<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cYou get a warm glow inside &#8211; I can\u2019t tell you how it feels,\u201d Mrs Stobart adds.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">RozMogz will be holding a fundraising psychic night on February 25 at the RAFA Club in Ely.
