I\u2019ve been campaigning for three years to get the council to improve the road. Now they have, but it\u2019s a mess.<\/span><br \/>\n<figure id=\"attachment_17489\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-17489\" style=\"width: 553px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\" wp-image-17489\" src=\"https:\/\/cardiffjournalism.co.uk\/thecardiffian\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2017\/02\/File_004-1.jpeg\" alt=\"Roadworks on Holton Road\" width=\"553\" height=\"415\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-17489\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><noscript><img decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-17489\" src=\"https:\/\/cardiffjournalism.co.uk\/thecardiffian\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2017\/02\/File_004-1.jpeg\" alt=\"Roadworks on Holton Road\" width=\"553\" height=\"415\" \/><\/noscript> Roadworks on Holton Road, Barry, which are due to go on until the end of March.<\/figcaption><\/figure><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cThey started the work on the run-up to Christmas but it\u2019s a main shopping area. This means that businesses have lost trade at their most important time.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cI welcome the improvements, but they could have been done better. I just hope the council gets its act together.\u201d<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Lewis Prangley, 34, owner of Hydropower on Holton Road said: \u201cIf you compare our intake over the last few months to this time last year then you can see we\u2019ve earned far less.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cIt\u2019s affected business in lots of ways. There was a time when we couldn\u2019t access our front door because of the roadworks. And of course, we get big deliveries and the lorries can\u2019t unload them because they can\u2019t park on the road.\u201d<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Richard, 40, an employee at JPL Sound said: \u201cWe didn\u2019t even get a consultation about it. We got a letter from the council three days before the work took place and that was it.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cI understand that work needs to be done to improve the roads. But I don\u2019t understand why they\u2019ve done it the way they have. They could have done the repairs bit by bit instead of doing it all in one go. It\u2019s been a nightmare for everyone here.\u201d<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Robina Kousseur, 39, owner of Basset General Stores on Holton Road said, \u201cThe roadworks have obviously affected business. I can\u2019t even park my own car outside the shop, so where are the customers supposed to go?\u201d<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The roadworks are also affecting people who live on adjacent streets. Bev MacKenzie, 40, lives on Basset Street. <\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cBecause people can\u2019t park their cars on Holton Road they\u2019re starting to park outside my house,\u201d she said. \u201cIt\u2019s an absolute nightmare and it\u2019s been going on forever.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cThey should have put speed bumps in. These roadworks are dangerous for kids. We have a park in the area, is it really safe for children to be crossing the road around here? I think it\u2019s just the council trying to use up their budget.\u201d<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">There are concerns that the roadworks are a hazard to the elderly too. Geraldine Feehan, 72, from Everard Street said: \u201cIt\u2019s an absolute shambles. It isn\u2019t safe getting off the bus on to that pavement, especially at night. It isn\u2019t level, it\u2019s a mess.\u201d<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Adrienne Byrne, 66, lives on Holton Road. Her house is on the doorstep of the roadworks. \u201cIt\u2019s taking forever. I know it will look lovely when it\u2019s done and the road needed repairing.
