After some negotiation that cost was reduced to \u00a31,800.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Mrs Meese said: \u201cThey said that even if there were cables there they hadn\u2019t been used for that amount of time so they had to be replaced.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cThey asked us to dig up our drive because it was on private land and they asked us to dig deeper than the existing cables so the new cables could be placed beneath them. There should be a system in place to tell whether properties have electricity running to them.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Mr and Mrs Meese believe the family had a lucky escape. <\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cI still don\u2019t understand why the first port of call was to insist that we had to dig up our drive without checking whether the existing cables were live.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cWe had a full refund but when I think about what could have happened it just doesn\u2019t bear thinking about.\u201d<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Western Power communications officer, Karen Welch said: &#8220;We\u2019re aware of the issues involving Mrs Meese and have spoken with her at length.
