{"id":19581,"date":"2017-03-21T17:36:25","date_gmt":"2017-03-21T17:36:25","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/jomec.co.uk\/thecardiffian\/?p=19581"},"modified":"2017-03-21T17:36:25","modified_gmt":"2017-03-21T17:36:25","slug":"court-man-assaulted-hotel-staff-underwear","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cardiffjournalism.co.uk\/thecardiffian\/2017\/03\/21\/court-man-assaulted-hotel-staff-underwear\/","title":{"rendered":"In court: Man who assaulted hotel staff in his underwear"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A FATHER of three who assaulted two members of hotel staff while wearing nothing but his underwear was today given a 12-month suspended sentence and a fine of over \u00a31,500.<br \/>\nTrevor Allen, 27, from Hawthorn Avenue, Hengoed, pleaded guilty to damaging property at the Clayton Hotel on St Mary\u2019s Street, Cardiff, and two counts of common assault.<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-19584 \" src=\"https:\/\/cardiffjournalism.co.uk\/thecardiffian\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2017\/03\/File_000-3-e1490115887399.jpeg\" alt=\"Clayton Hotel\" width=\"478\" height=\"637\" \/><noscript><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-19584 \" src=\"https:\/\/cardiffjournalism.co.uk\/thecardiffian\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2017\/03\/File_000-3-e1490115887399.jpeg\" alt=\"Clayton Hotel\" width=\"478\" height=\"637\" \/><\/noscript><br \/>\nProsecutor David Cooke said Allen had been at the hotel with his family for a wedding and had woken up trapped in a lift wearing nothing but his underwear.<br \/>\n\u201cHe was trapped in a lift, which worked him up into a rage and he then assaulted the first person he saw. He was standing in his boxers and couldn&#8217;t remember why,\u201d said Mr Cooke.<br \/>\nAllen told\u00a0police he believed his drink had been spiked.<br \/>\nCCTV footage showed Allen chasing and assaulting Michael Geewing, the staff member outside the lift. He then went to the lobby where he screamed at the night manager, Jason White, asking for his money back.<br \/>\nMr White asked Allen to calm down, but was then assaulted by Allen who cut and bruised his lip.<br \/>\n\u201cHe doesn&#8217;t calm down for the police, he enters a fighting stance and is sprayed [and] eventually the handcuffs are applied,\u201d said Mr Cooke.<br \/>\nDefending, Kelly Johnson spoke of Allen&#8217;s shame at seeing the footage saying he had \u201clittle recollection of the incident\u201d.<br \/>\n\u201cHis first recollection is waking up in the lift. He believes he only had a couple of drinks, he thinks seven drinks,\u201d she said.<br \/>\n\u201cHe was drinking with a group of men he did not know.<br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cHe has three daughters all below the age of 10, and is learning to be a tree surgeon &#8212; that in itself is a very good position. A custodial sentence would mean the end of all of that.\u201d <\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The magistrates deliberated for 35 minutes before sentencing him to two six-month suspended sentences for common assault and a six-week concurrent sentence for damaging a glass door. <\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Allen was also fined \u00a31,580 which included compensation of \u00a3500 each to Mr White and Mr Geewing for anxiety and distress caused and a further compensation of \u00a3100 for Mr White&#8217;s cut lip. <\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Head magistrate Valerie Cole said: \u201cIt was a prolonged and terrifying attack on members of the public just going about their jobs. We have only suspended the sentence because you have shown regret and pleaded guilty at the first opportunity.\u201d <\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Allen must also attend a 25-day rehabilitation program that deals with alcohol, substance abuse and anger management. <\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A FATHER of three who assaulted two members of hotel staff while wearing nothing but his underwear was today given a 12-month suspended sentence and a fine of over \u00a31,500.
