{"id":22365,"date":"2017-11-21T16:03:59","date_gmt":"2017-11-21T16:03:59","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/jomec.co.uk\/thecardiffian\/?p=22365"},"modified":"2017-11-21T16:03:59","modified_gmt":"2017-11-21T16:03:59","slug":"riverside-deserves-action-drug-abuse","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cardiffjournalism.co.uk\/thecardiffian\/2017\/11\/21\/riverside-deserves-action-drug-abuse\/","title":{"rendered":"Riverside &#039;deserves more action over drug abuse&#039;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">MORE needs to be done to tackle drug issues in Riverside, a community meeting has heard.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Residents told a Police and Communities Together meeting last week that used needles had been found in two parks opposite an NHS needle exchange.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">And during a sweep by ward councillor Kanaya Singh and the chair of Riverside PACT, Paul Burgess, more were found.<\/span><br \/>\nOne resident, who did not want to be named, told the meeting: \u201cThere is a significant amount of drug dealing going on. The traffic is huge.<br \/>\n\u201cThis is bringing misery to our area. It is bringing misery, drugs and drug dealing. It\u2019s not nice. Not very pleasant.\u201d<br \/>\nThe resident also complained of &#8220;cuckooing&#8221; in the area &#8211; when dealers take over the homes of vulnerable people from which to deal drugs.<br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The needle exchange is on Neville Road, in the same building as Inroads Wellbeing Institute which <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">provides a free and confidential service to support drug and alcohol users, ex-users, their family and friends.\u00a0<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">While both services improve the lives of those with addictions, their location has been controversial since they opened in 2014.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Just across the road from the rehabilitation centre are Clare Garden and Despenser Gardens, which is used extensively by children. <\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Coun Singh said: \u201cAs far as I am concerned, this is not an issue with Inroads in its totality, this is an issue with the needle exchange. It just can\u2019t be right to have it opposite two kids\u2019 parks. It\u2019s wrong. But residents believe there is a lot more to be done.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Coun Singh said: \u201cThis is a massive admission of the major issue of drugs and needles in the area. For me this is not good enough and that is not what we should be putting up with in Riverside.\u201d<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Residents believe the area has become a hotspot for drugs as dealers target the vulnerable people who use the facilities at Inroads. <\/span><br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\n<em>The Cardiffian is awaiting response from Inroads on the matter.<\/em><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Have you been affected by the drug problems in Riverside?
