BARRY’S Lee Selby will defend his IBF featherweight title against Josh Warrington on May 19.
\nThe much anticipated bout will take place in Warrington\u2019s home city of Leeds. Selby called out Warrington after his last win on points against Mexican Eduardo Ramirez in December.
\nAfter the fight Selby said: \u201cIf the money is at Elland Road, it makes sense to me. That\u2019s what it comes down to.\u201d
\nSelby claimed the featherweight title at London\u2019s O2 Arena against Evgeny Gradovich in May 2015.
\n\u201cThe plan is to beat Warrington and then go over to Belfast and beat Frampton too,” he said.
\n\u201cHe\u2019s got emotionally attached to me. I will give him an educated boxing lesson \u2026 and then move on.
\n“If I beat Frampton then the world is my oyster. This is a huge year for me and by the end of it I\u2019ll prove I\u2019m the number one featherweight in the UK.”
\nSince October 2017 Frampton and Selby have both been promoted by Frank Warren.
\nWarrington says he is looking forward to ending the narrative that Selby is the best featherweight in the UK.
\n\u201cFor the past three or four years our names have always been mentioned together,\u201d said the 27-year-old.
\n\u201cHe\u2019s always been that one step ahead of me and everyone has always looked at him as the number one featherweight, but that will change on May 19.\u201d
\nWarrington goes in to the fight undefeated in 26 fights and holds the WBC International Championship.
\nThe Welshman has 26 wins and one defeat on his record. The showdown in May will be his fifth defence of the world title he maintained in 2015.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
