should be used.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">About 160 adults and children shared their ideas at the weekend on the Railway Street site currently used to store equipment for Network Rail\u2019s <a href=\"http:\/\/jomec.co.uk\/thecardiffian\/2018\/01\/23\/splott-road-bridge-work-continues-despite-carillion-collapse\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">upgrade sustainable living group <a href=\"http:\/\/www.greencityevents.co.uk\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Green City Events<\/a> wants to turn it into a community hub.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Green City held two events last week, at Splott\u2019s Oasis Centre on Wednesday, January 24, and One Fox Lane in Adamsdown on Saturday, January 27. <\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Around 120 people came to learn about the project, and a further 40 \u00a0contacted Green City online to offer suggestions.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">At the events, Green City&#8217;s director Becca Clark placed large sheets of paper around the room detailing possible uses for the site including;<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">A community garden<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Shared workspaces<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">A children\u2019s adventure playground or outdoor educational space, and<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">A new caf\u00e9 or bar.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Visitors were invited to write their suggestions and agree or disagree with others\u2019 ideas.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cWe wanted to involve the community at a really early stage so we can create a sustainable project, with a sense of ownership for people who live in this area,\u201d 400\">\u201cWe wanted something that people need and want. A space like this is going to be multifunctional: it\u2019s a good size, and I\u2019d love to think we could fit all these ideas in, but what we\u2019re looking to do is to create a hub for the community, with reasons for lots of different people to come and go.\u201d<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Dan Williams, 26, was one of those coming to learn more about the project at Wednesday\u2019s event.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cI hope they manage to get the space, because there\u2019s a lot of good ideas and a lot of people seem really enthusiastic about it. We\u2019ve just been writing alongside other people\u2019s ideas \u2013 because if 10 people think it\u2019s a good idea you need to put some weight behind it and show how many people have voted for different things.\u201d<br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">So what\u2019s next?<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cWe have quite a tight timescale, because this all built up momentum quite quickly at the end of last year,\u2019 said Ms Clark.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The team has a couple of weeks to submit its proposal to Cardiff Council.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cAt the moment the Strategic Estates department is researching the value of the land. It\u2019s us putting our case forward for the need for the project and saying that we can make it happen.\u201d<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">If Green City gets the land, the next question will be how to fund the project,<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cWe\u2019ll apply for funding from places like the Big Lottery, and there\u2019ll hopefully be some private investment.
