{"id":24061,"date":"2018-01-30T15:49:10","date_gmt":"2018-01-30T15:49:10","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/jomec.co.uk\/thecardiffian\/?p=24061"},"modified":"2018-01-30T15:49:10","modified_gmt":"2018-01-30T15:49:10","slug":"plan-24-hour-chippy-cardiff-rejected","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cardiffjournalism.co.uk\/thecardiffian\/2018\/01\/30\/plan-24-hour-chippy-cardiff-rejected\/","title":{"rendered":"Plan for 24-hour chippy in Cardiff is rejected"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">A CARDIFF fish and shop\u2019s plan to open 24-hours a day, seven days a week was today rejected by the council. <\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Parc Lane Fish and Chips on Queen Street wanted to vary its licence, a plan which included extending the sale of alcohol by an hour. <\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The licensing sub-committee on January 23 was later adjourned but revealed its decision in a written statement.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Residents, nearby businesses and South Wales Police objected to the expansion due to concerns over public disorder and noise. <\/span><br \/>\n<i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The Cardiffian <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">asked\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">people visiting the city their thoughts. <\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Kyle Williams, 27, said: \u201cIt\u2019s a bit silly really, it\u2019s only round the corner from night clubs here anyway, so I don\u2019t see how it could cause more trouble. <\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cI mean you\u2019ve got McDonald\u2019s and Burger King here with bouncers for the trouble, can\u2019t see trouble like that here.\u201d <\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Sam Harrison, 25, said: \u201cIt\u2019s only a stone&#8217;s thrown from the high street and it\u2019s not like it\u2019s quiet there, but they\u2019ve already got bouncers in Maccies and they\u2019re not small guys are they? <\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cI can see why they\u2019d reject it, but it\u2019s only a chippy, can\u2019t see many students going in there after a night out.\u201d <\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Andrew Cook, 49, said: \u201cI knew they applied, but didn\u2019t know they\u2019d been rejected. <\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cJust glad for the staff, I wouldn\u2019t like to be behind the fryer at that time.\u201d <\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">A nearby resident on Churchill Way told Cardiff council: \u201cThese premises already have an extension to normal licensing hours and have disregarded limits placed on their licences in the past. <\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cAs a resident of Landmark Place, I am frequently disturbed and inconvenienced by the crowd and noise and outside these premises. <\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cI am unable to avail myself of the amenities close by because it is not safe to walk.\u201d <\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Chief Inspector Joe Jones of South Wales Police wrote a formal objection to the extension. <\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">He said the shop was in an area experiencing high levels of crime, disorder and incidents with alcohol and he was objecting to prevent public nuisance.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Representatives for the hotel Jurys Inn also objected. &#8220;We are extremely concerned that the additional hours sought the sale of alcohol, the provision of late night refreshment of regulated entertainment will adversely affect hotel residents,\u201d they said.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The hotel said it had received complaints from customers about disturbance from the premises, which led the hotel to receive negative reviews and forced it to issue refunds.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Nuisance related to fumes from cooking due to poor extraction also affected their guests. <\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Norma Mackie, councillor for Cathays and the city centre, also objected.\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">She said the variations would be likely to increase the amount of drunken behaviour, noise and litter in a small area of the city centre. <\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A CARDIFF fish and shop\u2019s plan to open 24-hours a day, seven days a week was today rejected by the council.
