{"id":24354,"date":"2018-02-02T12:56:48","date_gmt":"2018-02-02T12:56:48","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/jomec.co.uk\/thecardiffian\/?p=24354"},"modified":"2018-02-02T12:56:48","modified_gmt":"2018-02-02T12:56:48","slug":"exemplary-chippy-sad-no-24-hour-opening","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cardiffjournalism.co.uk\/thecardiffian\/2018\/02\/02\/exemplary-chippy-sad-no-24-hour-opening\/","title":{"rendered":"&#039;Exemplary&#039; chippy sad at no to 24-hour plan"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">BOSSES at a Cardiff chippy are disappointed their\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">bid to open 24-hours, seven days a week has been rejected. <\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Carl Ryan, director of Parc Lane Trading Ltd, said: \u201c<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">We are obviously disappointed with the decision, because it did not take into account the exemplary record we have in our existing operation.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cWe already have a licence to operate 24 hours over the weekend, and trade until 6am each Friday and Saturday night. \u00a0<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cWe were applying to extend this to cover weekdays, in order to give us more flexible trading hours.\u201d<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Cardiff council released its decision on January 29 after opposition from neighbours, South Wales police, councillors and the Jurys Inn hotel. <\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">McDonald\u2019s on Queen Street is already open 24\/7 and is a destination for late night revellers. <\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cMcDonalds was cited as an existing 24-hour premises being a so-called hotspot for anti-social behaviour. \u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">It\u2019s worth noting that this was also cited when we applied for the current licence. \u00a0<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cWe have proven that it is possible to operate such a premises without it becoming a hotspot, and we are disappointed this was not taken into account.\u201d<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Burger King on Queen Street is another fast food outlet open to the early hours from 8am until 5am on Fridays and Saturdays and until 4am on weekdays. <\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Mr Ryan added: \u201cLikewise, if premises like McDonalds and Burger King on the same street are deemed to be such an issue, why haven\u2019t the authorities taken action to review their licences? \u00a0<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cIf there is enough evidence to prove they are hotspots for antisocial behaviour, the authorities have the power to change their operating hours.\u201d<\/span><br \/>\n<i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The Cardiffian <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">asked people in the city centre their views on the council\u2019s deicsion,<i>\u00a0<\/i><\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Kyle Williams, 27, said: \u201cIt\u2019s a bit silly really, it\u2019s only round the corner from nightclubs here anyway, so I don\u2019t see how it could cause more trouble. <\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cI mean you\u2019ve got McDonald\u2019s and Burger King here with bouncers for the trouble, can\u2019t see trouble like that at the chippy.\u201d<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">McDonald\u2019s declined to comment. <\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>BOSSES at a Cardiff chippy are disappointed their\u00a0bid to open 24-hours, seven days a week has been rejected.
