{"id":24614,"date":"2018-02-06T13:26:29","date_gmt":"2018-02-06T13:26:29","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/jomec.co.uk\/thecardiffian\/?p=24614"},"modified":"2018-02-06T13:26:29","modified_gmt":"2018-02-06T13:26:29","slug":"meet-artists-stitching-mark-cardiffs-streets","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cardiffjournalism.co.uk\/thecardiffian\/2018\/02\/06\/meet-artists-stitching-mark-cardiffs-streets\/","title":{"rendered":"Meet the artists stitching their mark on Cardiff&#039;s streets"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>THE guerrilla cross-stitchers of Crossing Paths never dreamed their work would still be decorating the streets of Roath, Splott and Adamsdown one year on.<br \/>\nIn October 2016, the group, formed by Rebecca Clark, founder of the Splott-based community interest company Green City Events, created over 50 pieces of cross-stitch art on the theme of gardening, wildlife and the outdoors and installed them overnight.<br \/>\n&#8220;We wanted to put them up at night so they appeared the next morning for people to find,\u201d said Ms Clark.<br \/>\nThe group collected the materials together and decided on designs, then each member took home a frame to start work on their own piece.<br \/>\nAll the materials were upcycled from reclaimed materials collected from charity shops that couldn\u2019t be used, and people\u2019s old T-shirts and tights.\u00a0The materials were cut into thin strips and cross stitched onto mesh frames.<br \/>\n<figure id=\"attachment_24630\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-24630\" style=\"width: 498px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\" wp-image-24630\" src=\"https:\/\/cardiffjournalism.co.uk\/thecardiffian\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2018\/02\/P1010276.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"498\" height=\"373\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-24630\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><noscript><img decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-24630\" src=\"https:\/\/cardiffjournalism.co.uk\/thecardiffian\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2018\/02\/P1010276.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"498\" height=\"373\" \/><\/noscript> A close up of the cross stitch<\/figcaption><\/figure><br \/>\nCrossing Paths member, Melissa Cracknell said: \u201cI made four pieces, the large bluebell piece and a ladybird on the gate of the Mackintosh community garden. I still enjoy seeing them dotted around.\u201d<br \/>\n\u201cInstalling them was really fun and exciting, going out at night and feeling really mischievous, dressed up in hats and scarfs and secretly going around our neighbourhoods. It helped build a really nice bond between everyone.\u201d<br \/>\nMs Clark based her designs on some she saw in Valencia.<br \/>\n&#8220;But it was really nice to see people going really off the wall and doing some completely different ones. Some have faded, or taken down and just a few have been vandalised.
