We had some birds here too but when they cut down the trees they vanished. <\/span><br \/>\n<figure id=\"attachment_24912\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-24912\" style=\"width: 601px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-24912\" src=\"https:\/\/cardiffjournalism.co.uk\/thecardiffian\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2018\/02\/fullsizeoutput_26.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"601\" height=\"451\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-24912\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><noscript><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-24912\" src=\"https:\/\/cardiffjournalism.co.uk\/thecardiffian\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2018\/02\/fullsizeoutput_26.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"601\" height=\"451\" \/><\/noscript> The houses would have been built behind 30 Springfield Gardens and the two neighbouring properties.<\/figcaption><\/figure><br \/>\n\u201cWe used to have herons and woodpeckers too. Any more work will mean we lose all the wildlife. It seems such a shame, we haven\u2019t got much cover here now the trees have gone, so they must\u2019ve moved elsewhere.\u201d<br \/>\nCouncillor Rod McKerlich said: \u201cDue to the drastic clearance of that land, the slow worms will have to look after themselves.\u201d<br \/>\nThe main objection to the plans was concerns about drainage because of the proximity to a quarry, the fact the proposed houses would be built on a peat bog and the brooks flowing through the gardens.<br \/>\nProfessor of Earth Science at Cardiff University, Caroline Lear, who presented a petition at the planning committee meeting, said: \u201cThe applicant simply does not understand and the flood risks are underestimates. The hydrology has to be understood to understand long term impacts.<br \/>\n\u201cNo development should occur until long term groundwater monitoring has taken place.
