It\u2019s understandable because Heol Isaf is the main arterial route into Cardiff and to the M4 and the alternative route is such a long way round.<br \/>\n\u201cIt\u2019s not safe to walk our grandchildren to school anymore because of the lorries flying along the road and there are so many diesel fumes, so my wife walks the long way,\u00a0round the back roads now. On the walk to school we usually see about five lorries.&#8221;<br \/>\n\u201cThe HGVs driving along the road are causing huge potholes which are continually being filled in.\u201d<br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Phase one of building the 7,000 homes at Plas Dwr started on Monday which means a lot more lorries pass through the village. <\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Despite planning conditions preventing vehicles over 7.5 tonnes passing through the village, and many signs along the length of Radyr\u2019s main road, Heavy Goods Vehicles, some exceeding the limit are still using the village as a cut through.<\/span><br \/>\n<figure id=\"attachment_25294\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-25294\" style=\"width: 694px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\" wp-image-25294\" src=\"https:\/\/cardiffjournalism.co.uk\/thecardiffian\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2018\/02\/P1010294.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"694\" height=\"520\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-25294\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><noscript><img decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-25294\" src=\"https:\/\/cardiffjournalism.co.uk\/thecardiffian\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2018\/02\/P1010294.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"694\" height=\"520\" \/><\/noscript> An HGV driving into Radyr via Heol Isaf<\/figcaption><\/figure><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Councillor Caro Wild said: \u201c<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">We\u2019re doing lots to alleviate the problems. It is completely unacceptable for HGVs to break the law, especially near schools and pedestrians.\u201d<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Coun Wild said: \u201cWe have met with the main developers at the nearby site, reminding them of the their obligations under our planning rules.\u201d <\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Councillor Rod McKerlich said: \u201cWe have asked for cooperation of receiving companies such as CEMEX, Redrow and Barratt. <\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cWe are insisting that Cardiff council planners make conformity to the weight limit, a condition of the planning approval.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cFinally, we are asking police to prosecute infringing vehicles. However, they are reluctant to accept photos or personal observation as a basis of prosecution.\u201d<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Inspector Ben Davies at Fairwater Police Station said: \u201cI am aware of concerns regarding HGVs travelling through the area and I have met with local residents and the council to find a way forward. <\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cWe have also run an operation to directly target overweight vehicle usage and educate drivers. We intend to repeat a similar operation which will include visiting companies whose lorries continue to drive through the area.\u201d<\/span><br \/>\nResidents can report over weight lorries in Radyr by emailing\u00a0the registration number, the time and date and the name on the vehicle to <a href=\"mailto:getintouch@plasdwr.co.uk\">getintouch@plasdwr.co.uk<\/a>.<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-25290\" src=\"https:\/\/cardiffjournalism.co.uk\/thecardiffian\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2018\/02\/P1010300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"4000\" height=\"3000\" \/><noscript><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-25290\" src=\"https:\/\/cardiffjournalism.co.uk\/thecardiffian\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2018\/02\/P1010300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"4000\" height=\"3000\" \/><\/noscript><strong>A pothole in Radyr.
