{"id":26277,"date":"2018-02-27T11:38:35","date_gmt":"2018-02-27T11:38:35","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/jomec.co.uk\/thecardiffian\/?p=26277"},"modified":"2018-02-27T11:38:35","modified_gmt":"2018-02-27T11:38:35","slug":"teenager-page-snooker-open-second-round","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cardiffjournalism.co.uk\/thecardiffian\/2018\/02\/27\/teenager-page-snooker-open-second-round\/","title":{"rendered":"Teenager Page into snooker second round"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">16-YEAR-OLD snooker player Jackson Page has made it into the second round of the Welsh Open for the second year in succession.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Page, who was just a frame from defeat against world number 125 Sean O\u2019Sullivan, kept his cool to take the game with a difficult pink after forcing a deciding seventh frame.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cI started well but I struggled towards the end,\u201d Page said. \u201c(O\u2019Sullivan) played well but I just managed to get through in the end so I\u2019m really happy.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cBy playing in all the events throughout the year it sets you up for this situation. So, I felt cool up there today.\u201d<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Page has also started training with Wales top ranked player, world number six Mark Williams, to fine tune his game.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cIt\u2019s great! It\u2019s me, Mark and Duane (Jones) in the club every day and we play winner stays on,\u201d he said.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> \u201cYou can\u2019t beat practising with Mark. I\u2019m learning loads from him.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cHe just hits 147, one after one after one. It\u2019s great to watch and I love it. It\u2019s perfect, it\u2019s a dream.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cI\u2019ve played a few of the top players now and I haven\u2019t beat any of them so my aim is to beat one of them this week.\u201d<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Page now faces a second round tie against reigning champion Stuart Bingham who made short work of Chen Zhe as he continued his return to snooker following his betting ban.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Elsewhere Wales\u2019 world number 18, Ryan Day, dropped out of the tournament after a losing against Kurt Dunham.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Day, from Pontycymer, Bridgend, became the first Welsh casualty of the tournament as he struggled with his shot selection and execution.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Dominic Dale, Daniel Wells and Ian Preece are still in with a chance of victory on home soil after triumphing in their first round fixtures.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Elsewhere Rhydian Richards beat fellow Welsh amateur Darren Morgan 4-3 in the final qualifying match to earn a place in the main draw.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">He faces world number 67 David Grace in the first round.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>16-YEAR-OLD snooker player Jackson Page has made it into the second round of the Welsh Open for the second year in succession.
