Snow halts food deliveries across the city"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">IT&#8217;S early afternoon on one of Cardiff\u2019s worst ever snow days.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Work is cancelled, schools are closed and once you\u2019ve Instagrammed the #Snowmageddon and donned seven layers, there\u2019s really little to do except catch up on Loose Women.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">On a day like today, you\u2019d usually be cooking up a banging brunch \u2013 but something\u2019s gone horribly wrong. Like a fool (and despite those texts from Mum), you didn\u2019t stock up on bread and milk yesterday. And what\u2019s a brunch without bread and milk?<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Don\u2019t worry: this was us this morning, too. By the milk (mercifully still in stock), we find two workers who confirm there\u2019s been no delivery today \u2013 and many staff are snowed in.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cHave you seen the fruit and veg aisle?\u201d one asks, laughing.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">There, a young man soldiers on with his shopping list. The reindeer antlers on his woollen hat wobble as he glances from his soggy scrap of paper to the equally sad selection of bagged salad leaves. Photo: Hannah Butler<\/figcaption><\/figure><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Maybe this is why people were stocking up yesterday, we realise \u2013 beginning to curse our reliance on quick refined carbs.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">However, with a delivery on the premises, there\u2019s solace in the fact that at least some shoppers might have a more successful day than Cathays Tesco salad man.<\/span><br \/>\n<b>10:30am Tesco Metro (Capitol shopping centre) and Marks and Spencer (St David\u2019s shopping centre)<\/b><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">In a last-ditch attempt to find a solitary freshly-baked bread roll, we nip into Tesco Metro and M&amp;S. Neither have had deliveries, and both are woefully empty on the bread front (although the nation\u2019s milk fears remain ungrounded). Tesco reckons there\u2019ll be a delivery later.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">We\u2019re not allowed to take pictures, but let\u2019s face it: we\u2019ve all seen enough empty bread shelves to last us a lifetime.<\/span><br \/>\nAll attempts to secure fresh bread have failed.
