Sports teams had to find alternative locations.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Cardiff Council turned down a request to use Pontcanna Fields as the Maes again in 2018 because of the disruption caused in 2008.\u00a0The events will now be held in Cardiff Bay.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">However, it has been revealed that Pontcanna will become a caravan and camping site for the week-long festival.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">While many residents are happy to see the Eisteddfod return to Cardiff, the use of Pontcanna is proving controversial.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Keith Thomas, who lives in Pontcanna said: \u201cIt\u2019s good to see the Eisteddfod here again but it\u2019s a very bad idea to use a park as a car park. They ruined the park last time and it was two years before we had access to it.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cThere will be trucks towing toilets and shower blocks, these can churn up the ground. It also deprives locals of a huge area of parkland.\u201d<\/span><br \/>\n<figure id=\"attachment_27078\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-27078\" style=\"width: 3264px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-27078\" src=\"https:\/\/cardiffjournalism.co.uk\/thecardiffian\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2018\/03\/IMG_1386.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"3264\" height=\"2448\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-27078\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><noscript><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-27078\" src=\"https:\/\/cardiffjournalism.co.uk\/thecardiffian\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2018\/03\/IMG_1386.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"3264\" height=\"2448\" \/><\/noscript> Pontcanna Fields will become a camping and caravanning site for the Eisteddfod (cr. Tomos Ings)<\/figcaption><\/figure><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Peter Coles, a professor of theoretical astrophysics at Cardiff University, agreed calling the 2008 event a disaster.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cI can\u2019t believe this location is even being considered again. I\u2019m glad the Eisteddfod will be in Cardiff again, but this is the wrong site,\u201d he added.<\/span><br \/>\n&nbsp;<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-conversation=\"none\" data-lang=\"en\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">Agree it\u2019s the wrong site, the parks were gifted for general public\u2019s recreation. Natural beauty with limited parking &amp; already congested roads &#8211; not the place for such large event. council are encroaching on public land to make \u00a3\u00a3\u00a3. Kevin Davies, who works for BBC Cymru Fyw, believes the site will benefit from the temporary repurposing.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cThe football pitches can and should be regularly ploughed and reseeded in order to keep them in good condition which is what will subsequently happen at the Eisteddfod\u2019s expense. Win win.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cIt\u2019s a caravan site,\u201d he said, \u201cwhere families will stay for a week of getting a taste of Cardiff.
