Climbing is a time consuming sport. The best crags are often inaccessible, the faff involved with the equipment is considerable, and the practise needed to climb the hard stuff is intense. Anything that makes this more accessible has got to be welcome.<br \/>\nThe spread of indoor climbing centres in the UK has done much to increase the popularity of the sport over the last few years. It narrowly missed out on being selected as an event for the 2020 Olympic games.<br \/>\n<iframe class=\"zeen-lazy-load-base zeen-lazy-load\" title=\"Climbing in Cardiff\" width=\"1200\" height=\"675\" src=\"about:blank\" data-lazy-src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/GUuKmk7CjLs?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><noscript><iframe title=\"Climbing in Cardiff\" width=\"1200\" height=\"675\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/GUuKmk7CjLs?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/noscript><br \/>\nBoulders, an indoor climbing centre on Cardiff\u2019s Newport Road, is one of a growing number of city centre climbing venues that is making climbing more accessible.<br \/>\n\u201cPerhaps before indoor walls came about it was harder, certainly,\u201d said Boulders staff member &#8211; Rich Millier. \u201cBut now with the accessibility of the indoor walls, you can come down, give it a go.\u201d<br \/>\nAs people look for viable and interesting alternatives to the gym \u2013 climbing is quickly becoming reconciled with busy modern lives. As well as physical fitness, the sport poses mental challenges, and promotes sociability.<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/cardiffian.jomec.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/DSCF1399.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-2762 alignleft\" alt=\"DSCF1399\" src=\"http:\/\/cardiffian.jomec.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/DSCF1399-225x300.jpg\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" \/><noscript><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2762 alignleft\" alt=\"DSCF1399\" src=\"http:\/\/cardiffian.jomec.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/DSCF1399-225x300.jpg\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" \/><\/noscript><\/a>\u00a0\u00a0 \u201cI come climbing because I enjoy the problem solving,\u201d said student, Tom Arscott. \u201cI make time for it. I used to come with a friend about a year ago and it\u2019s much busier now, much, much busier.\u201d<br \/>\n\u201cWe\u2019re definitely trying to create something here, more of a stronger community of South Wales,\u201d said Mr Millier. \u201cI think indoor walls are great at that \u2013 they\u2019re really good meeting places \u2013 for people to come and meet and discuss routes.
