So you lay tarmac too?\u201d he exclaims. <\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">This earns a hearty collective laugh from his companions &#8211; one of whom is Dave. <\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">As you\u2019ve probably guessed, Dave is not of Gallic extraction. <\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">He lives in the Valleys but has been friends with Jean since the 1980s, when both plied their trade in Toulouse\u2019s semi-professional rugby leagues.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Dave is acting as an unofficial tour guide for Jean\u2019s group. They are predicting a win \u201cpour <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">l\u2019\u00e9quipe Fran\u00e7ais, bien s\u00fbr!\u201d<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Dave, naturally, disagrees. <\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cIt\u2019ll be cagey, but I think the home crowd will make the difference tomorrow,\u201d he says. \u201cI\u2019m going for a Wales French is wise. \u201cWe\u2019re <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Breton<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">,\u201d stresses Nicolas, indicating the proliferation of traditional Breton berets.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Brittany is a region with a distinctive cultural and linguistic heritage. \u201cJust like Wales!\u201d he quips.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Each member of Nicolas\u2019 group says Wales will lose by at least 20 points.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">I have a hunch this could be the beer style=\"font-weight: 400\">In fact, they\u2019re planning on making a weekend of it motivated in part by today\u2019s sunshine.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cIt\u2019s warm here,\u201d says Frederic. \u201cI hope it can stay like this for tomorrow.\u201d<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Glasses clink around the table in agreement.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Such is group\u2019s Gallic exuberance, I don\u2019t have the heart to tell them Saturday\u2019s weather forecast. <\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">I decide to let them enjoy their Cardiff sojourn a little while longer.
